Default Pinewood derby car for my son

First let me say sorry to the 4 dr JK owners out there. I tried but this was the best I could do with the little time I had. This Jeep didn't race but was used for track testing. It would have came in 2nd place for sure.

I guess if you scaled the tires to the Jeep...it might. That would make this a low rider...Daaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmnnnnnnnnn

That made me dig up this old one out of my collection. My dad and I used to build 3 or 4 a year and take the best one. This was one of the concepts we were gonna use but decided not to:

96' Dodge Viper GTS

As you can see it's beat to hell now cuz i used to play with it after we built it and didn't run it. The car was completely legal and we almost used it but this was more for looks and the other car I built that year was much faster and got me second place. We bought a block of balsa wood at a hobby shop and I spent lots of hours sanding to get all the curves just right. Took the decals, head and tail lights from a model viper.

Head and taillights used to actually work. They were powered by N sized batteries which also made up the weights. Hub caps are bingo chips. This was a great way to keep the wheels spinning fast. The trick is before you glue the bingo chip on, you put in the graphite so it keeps the wheels self lubricating to keep the friction down. God I can't wait til i have a kid to do this with.

I wasn't trying to come across bragging. I just never really saw anyone else build a pinewood derby car that looked like an actual vehicle before. I think its sweet. So props to you.

One of the first Pinewood Derby cars I built when I was a Boy Scout was a stretched CJ2A. I don't have any pics, but it's still in a box at my parent's house in Maryland.

I am quite impressed.... very nice work.

My family has 3 cars in process for Pack 409 in Whitmore Lake. My son will be running a NASCAR truck in the pack race and my daughter and I will be running Z rail designs for the open class...

I will post up some pix later as the get finished.
