Question Anyone watch SiCKO? By Michel Moore

In english class right now and we watched it last week and were discussing it right now. It's about universal health care. Something Hilary started back in Bill's term.

Yeah, because it should be the governments job to take care of us all

Hell, while we're at it, they should give us all housing and food as well:chiefwoohaw:

Taxes are higher but if everyone pays an extra $500 in taxes we could have something like this. People find jobs for the group discount rate through work, so be same principle being every tax payer pays as to keep it adfordable. But the only thing is right now the health of our nation whould take one hell of a toll right a way.

I'm sure they will manage health care just as good as they manage social security.

Think about this statement young skull full of mush, everytime you look to the government to "fix" something that isn't broke.

How about no.

I would much rather just pay for my own insurance out of pocket and regulate what I want, and how much I want to spend.

But you pay more now for private insurance than say you would in 1 year of the extra taxes to support this, then not counting the thousands you'd pay if you was to get cancer or something.

If this country would get the lawsuits under control, get the bullshit insurance industry under control, more than likely health care wouldn't cost as much as it does, and more people would be able to afford it.

If not, it's called Darwinism - hard to accept? Yes. The way it should be? You betcha!

And yes, I know allowing to 'regulate' lawsuits/insurance is in a sense like socialism, but it's a lot further from it than "universal bullshit healthcare". Lawsuits for no reason at all tax the system, drive up the costs of insurance and fukc the rest of us. Am I saying never sue for malpractice? No. But there are numerous cases when that's simply not the case...

More so, I sincerely hope your teacher showed this movie to get you to think, research, and then discuss. Do some research - think the canuks have it great, talk to them on their system.....

discussing it now , researching it now and it's good in therory, but to just flat out do this would not work, but something needs to be done. We are ranked 37th in the world in health care, you think we need to do something, when a third world country has better health care?

I'm pretty sure the "canuks" are ranked higher globably than we are when it comes to medicine and healthcare.

EDIT: Yep. http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html

First of all, it would be about $500 A MONTH in taxes extra. Healthcare is not cheap and unless the government caps frivolous lawsuits, it will only get worse. Tort reform is the only answer.

Also, do you realize that if the government takes over insurance, not only will it be much worse quality and will the wait be much longer for essential service, but all current healthcare companies would go out of business.

The insurance company that I work for employs 30,000 employees and we aren't one of the biggest. Your talking about approximately 400,000 jobs, maybe more.

Tell me how that would help anyone?!?! :miff:

Better? You mean cheaper?

When I go to the doctor I pay cash. I have major medical insurance with a high deductible just in case I get seriously hurt. It's like $75 a month and my deductible is $1800, coverage up to 1m. That seems like a lot of cash, except when I factor in I have been to the doctor maybe 10 times in the last 10 years.

If I had a child I would have different insurance. But I don't expect my employer or my government to pay just because I wanted a kid.

That stat is horribly misleading. Canadians as well as many european contries have different health habits than fat lazy Americans. That is the REAL reason behind their more healthy societies. Almost no fast food, eating smaller amounts, more exercise, less stress.

When you look at disease and chronic disabilities though, America's health system is light years ahead of europe and Canada's. That is because you have to PAY for higher quality. Why do you think that all of the extremely rich oil princes and kings from dubai and the middle east bring their children to The Cleveland Clinic and other American hospitals for treatment?

And just an FYI, most europeans and canadians still have PRIVATE healthcare insurance policies. The state run system is so horrible that many private companies are selling just as many policies there as they are here... only because their system sucks.

How do you mean better?

America has literally the best healthcare in the world. I'm guessing this stat is bassed either on the amount of people who are covered vs those who aren't OR its based on our life expectancy. America's life expectancy is actually pretty low compared to much of the world due to our habits, which is what I stated above.

If you only knew how many people in America who aren't currently covered could have healthcare instead of buying a pack of smokes and a beer every week, it would be shocking.
