Meh.

Just not sure how much they can do with an engine from a car company that no longer exists, at least as far as the interest of the general population goes.
Friend of mine had a Matador with the 327, helluva motor, but generally got joked about at cruise nights.
Since the whole thing seems to be a popularity contest, the Wagoneer is up against that from the start. If it happens, it may just end up being a 2WD Pro Street abortion, which is sad.....I'm just thinking of things that would create interest beyond the hardcore 4WD community.

I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing an AMC 360 powered '78 waggy about 6 yrs ago for $1800...all it needed was the stupid woodgrain sides either removed or redone. Owner thought it was going to go wheels up any minute cuz it had just flipped 100,000 miles. Got a 92 S-15 Jimmy instead, better gas mileage...

Yup, no 4-4-2's, Road Runner's, GTX's, Superbirds, or any other vehicles from defunct companies should be allowed either, right?

They don't use the 1st Gen SB Chevy in production anymore, so we might as well cross those off the list, too. :tonka:

If they want it and choose not to use the motor/drivetrain, I would suggest a HEMI drivetrain. Its actually already been done, which could also be a negative depending how you look at it.

Me, personally, I wouldn't change a thing, just make it roadworthy.

I'm just talking about what would be interesting to the general public.

That's why I'm afraid it would end up being some sort of ProStreet or blingbling ride.

I called there this morning with the intention of chatting with the producer about it for a minute and they put me on the air.

Yeah, we were listening to you. How is it that you sounded so calm, professional and polite?

After the fact, I don't think you should have told them about belonging to the message boards. You shoulda just said that it really appeals to folks across the board. Yeah, I know, you were caught off guard.

The real issue is that we can't let this die. If we do, it will just be chalked up to a flash in the pan.

That was my stunt double.

Speaking of message boards, people are getting rather a-holeish in the WCSX blog. I don't care if you don't support the Wagoneer to be chosen, but don't go through the trouble of posting just to bash it and then not say what your preferred choice would be. Immature posts like that are meaningless. They care less about what you don't like and more about what you do like.

I made a post on IFSJA, but the thread has not gotten rolling. Can you give me a link to the GLFWDA thread?

117 responses, and over 60 are pro jeep.

What did the conversation consist of on the radio? Ever since the invention of internet radio, I don't listen to WCSX anymore.

One thing that I noticed was a comment about the pro-jeep stuff all being one guy. But in truth, I have a feeling that it's really all the anti-Jeep stuff being one guy; or at least the ones with all Caps being the same guy. I notice a reoccurring theme in his notes about crushing it.

It wasn't very technical or detailed about anything in particular, but I tried to bring across the point that building a monster truck was not really what I had in mind when I decided I would offer it up. I've been staying out of the blog because I don't wantto argue with the idiots bashing the idea, but I'm going to make a post this morning that is along the lines of what I said on the air.

They also talked about about some of the less-jerky, but still humorous comments made by some of the posters (Danny Zuko) and touched on what the Rubicon Trail and Camp Jeep was.

Yeah, I picked up on that, too. Its obviously Roll-Bar-Bob.

http://www.glfwda.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5267

They were talking about how this guy who offered up the Jeep Cherokee had sparked some real controversy because of the die hard muscle car fans being outraged that there is so much positive response about the jeep. They said he must have a lot of friends.:tonka:

They went on to quote a guy who says he has a jeep but this is Woodward Ave, not the Rubicon trail.

So then they say, hey Mark's on the phone right now & put him on the air. They said howdy to Mark & asked him what he thought of the whole controversy. He was cool about it and said he's not wanting to create controversy but offer up something different that crosses the lines of the die hard muscle car fans. Spro also said a really good thing & that is that he is not envisioning a monster truck but rather a nicely done vehicle that is streetable and not necessarily built for the Rubicon trail.

So, then they went off on a tangent asking him about the Rubicon trail & Jeep Jamboree. They thought the Rubicon was the only place that they do the JJ. Mark said no, they do it all over the country, in fact here in Michigan. Unfortunately, they didn't pick up and expand on the Michigan statement.

Then they said you must have a lot of friends, are you in a club. He said it's not really a club but that he frequents many of the local message boards. They kind of went "ahhhh" realizing that there is where all the emails are coming from.

They wrapped up with a thanks for the offer. (for those that heard it, I think I covered most of it)

Yeah, they may be amusing to someone just reading but if we want a chance of getting the Cherokee in the running, these folks take this very seriously. It's not internet to them.

Yeah, its getting quite stupid now that someone has posted pretending to be Grandman. Apparently, that wasn't MuddyPaws that posted earlier in the blog, either.

i hope it does not ruin it. i get tired of going to car shows in the summer only to see a hundred similarly resto'd camaros, chevelles, gto's, mustangs, 32 fords etc. although they are beautiful cars it gets old. after a while it's nothing special or unique. infact I remember last year overhearing a bunch of older rod builders at a show bitching about the ratrod section because they didn't have $20 grand in a paintjob.

as for the wagoneer a panel delivery as others mentioned would be very cool, perhaps they could mod it to have ambulance doors in the rear.

i like the guys leaving cars with original paint in a patina finish. Now there are people building cars with a faux patina finish.

Seems the waggys patina could be desirable to some.

The only modern suggestion I have liked so far is the Hemi idea, but I would have no real "say" as to how the buiild would go if they choose the Wagoneer. It would be 100% their ball game once it leaves my possession.[/QUOTE]

That was me. I kinda like the panel van idea.
