Default Nikon 18-135 f3.5/5.6 DX camera lens

This is the lens that came packaged with my new Nikon D80.
I've had it three weeks.
Here's the specs:

http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php...productNr=2162
Includes the lens caps, lens storage bag, lens hood, UV filter and circular polarizing filter

$250 cash

If you're curious, here's what I replaced it with:

Curious - did you think about going with the "VR" (vibration reduction) series lens? I'm debating a D40X with the 18-55MM and 55-200mm VR package.

I understand the VR technology works really well.

I am replacing it with the DX 18-200 VR.
This lens is so popular that both Circuit City and Best Buy are selling it for $150 above the MSRP ($899).
Ritz Camera ordered it for me from their warehouse for $749.

this is a great lens. I have it on my D50 as my main carry lens. Price is very fair.

Duffman, VR is great. I have the 70-300 VR and love it. Its almost impossible to get a sharp picture without a tripod at the higher magnifications. The D40x will most likely be discontinued with the latest introduction of the D60. Should be some good prices coming along. Don't forget to look at the D40.... do you really need 4 extra megapixels for the price?

I honestly have not run out of resolution with our D40 yet.

Fantastic deal.

Here is what they sell new for. I,d say $100 off for three weeks, use is a sweet deal.

I would skip the package deals. Personally I would just get a good body and then choose your lens.

I currently run a D80 with this lens

I love it. I also use a circular polarizer and 2 SB800's

This has turned into a Nikon discussion.
I began my hobby in 1968 in Vietnam with a Nikon F2. I loved that camera. With marriage, kids, and life my interest and time for photography faded. Over time I sold off all my original equipment.
Now that I'm a grandpa it has become a priority hobby. I chose the D80 since it essentially has the same capabilities of the D200 except it's poly-carbonate body.
I am now a "rewards customer" of Ritz Camera. They seem to have the best prices and customer service in the area.

Ritz is nice if you want a store to go to. I like B&H Photo just because of there prices are usually cheaper. :)

I would like to see some of your shots from when you started - I'll bet you have quite a collection from Vietnam.

All of my photos taken in Vietnam were originally slides. About 500 of them. I never saw them until I came home after two consecutvie years in Vietnam. They were sent to the USA for processing and then shipped directly to my parents home while I was away.
Several years ago my daughters had them all transferred to VHS tape. About two years ago I transferred them all to a DVD slide show. Some are obviously "viewer discretion" and some are a bit faded, but every couple of years I go through them all.
