Default Bassists and Guitarists!!!

Whelp, I was bored as all heck last night, so I decided to look for small guitar headphone practice amps online.

Seeing as how the good ones are worth $50-$100 (and up) I decided to put my education to good use and build one myself.

By the advice of a co-worker I picked an Altoids container as my enclosure (sorry for the blurryness):

I added a 1/4" mono instrument input and an 1/8" stereo headphone output, and I threw in a power input jack (it should be able to take anywhere from 5 to 18 volts, but I haven't tested it):

Anyhow, I set it up to also carry a 9V battery (in case you want to jam somewhere without having to carry a power chord). I included a battery saver switch (which I will mount to the case as soon as I get some screws). I left off a volume knob because I wanted to be economical (and the guitar has a volume knob anyway, so another one is kind of unnecessary).

This sucker can get LOUD. It has a 200 dB gain, and I can blow a set of headphones with it (and my bass set at 9).

Well, I have some extra parts, so I thought I'd put out a "feeler post" and see if anyone else would like me to whip one up for them. I'd probably ask around $30-$35 for the version I have shown (minus the 9V power jack). I know that Guitar Center and Musician's Friend have some for cheaper, but I could customize these (speakers/volume knob/tone knob/1/4" output/enclosure/etc...) for a negotiable price, and, honestly, mine are much better quality for the mere fact that I don't skimp and use crappy parts!!!

Feel free to shoot me a PM or respond if you're interested, and we can work something out!

Thanks!

-Jim

I'm positive that someone else has built this before, I'm not saying that I'm the first.

I just thought I'd throw it out there that I can build this up for some people if interested.

Thank you, sir.

I'm glad I went with the Altoids box.

I was originally just going to use a Bud Project Box, but this is way more H4R|>|<0R3!

Oh, BTW, if you want an amp in an Altoids box, I'll throw in a FREE ziplock bag filled with Altoids!!!

The ultimate-guitar.com forums have a few builds like this, although this is really sweet.

Possibly here? http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/audio/9c1b/ You could make a killing for it even selling it 1/2 the price...what did it cost you? $5 to make? Start an ebay store.

5$?!?!?!?!

The tin is $1.79 by itself!!! That doesn't even include any of the components!!!

I'll completely be able to kick butt on quality if I get a few people who want them. I have a board router at my disposal, and I don't use skimpy 28 gauge wire, like most other companies do. You just can't get good enough components when you're keeping your budget at 5$. I'm building to last.

Plus, I am focused on customization. I can give you a 1/4" output along with your headphone output, and I can give you a jack for wall power. Also, I can leave off the power light so it saves a little more battery (I'm drawing 4mA, so, with a 480mA/Hour battery, you can get 120 hours on one battery).

That is a good find though!

PLUS! I don't want to build a billion of them...then it's not fun anymore.

I just thought I'd make a few for friends and fellow jeepers.
