this is not directed at anyone specifically, just an open statement-

Matt is the gatekeeper for this run, what he says goes. For those that don't like it or wish to challenge his requirements, organize your own deep snow run.

seriously, you dont.

I have plowed snow with my bumper on 35x15.5's floating on top of the snow for miles, the minute you fall in you are fucked, add to that difficult trails (I was often on simple seasonal roads) and 33-35's get you no where, no matter the lockers, etc.

As for some of the areas detr6oit is talking about, I have been there during this time of year. Chest deep is not uncommon, winching all day on 35's is not uncommon. Stuck on 40's in not uncommon.

In January of 02 I think it was i organized a run, some members from here attended. If they remember we made it approximately 1/2 mile on the fresh trails, in 12 hours. We ended up 3 miles short of our destination and had to turn back.

In March/Feb of the year prior Ironman may remember me looking for some help as a friends jeep was stuck on the trails in the UP and no one could get to him, including my at the time pretty built TJ, a friends bronco locked front and rear on 38's and a toyota mini truck with marlin crawlers on 42's. You see two failry built tj's on 33's and 35's headed out, then a foot and a half more snow fell after we had to leave his jeep in the woods. the next day no one could get to him.

We ended up hand hoveling nearly 1/2 mile of trail out to get him to pavement.

However lothos I think you are right, you can go where matt is speaking of on your 33 truxes that cant seem to stay on the rim.

stfu when you have no clue.
I remember that, I was just about ready to hitch up the trailer and head to the UP. Cant remember why I didn't though, must have got them out and called me?

FYI, dont call me on this one, I know my limits! Good luck and have fun Matt and whoever goes with him.

Yeah we snow shoed in with a few guys, come alongs, and shovels and dug out a huge parking lot area, got a rip at it and he barreled his way for a couple hundred yards and finally made it out.

So is there a location for this run, or a date? I may be interested in possibly meeting up with you guys if you are around this area. I am only on 36's, but I may be interested in going, and at least checking things out if your going around here.

As motorslut said, the snow is really deep up here. Chest deep is not uncommon at all

This is where knowing where exactly he was thinking about would have been helpful. I wheel mainly around my mom's neck of the UP. Gogebic county/ontanogon. You know where the deep drifts can occur and plan accordingly. Never had a problem on my 33's and only mild issues on 31's. Deepest i ran into was headlight depth, mainly 3/4 powder though. The one thing that has helped me in deep snow is my engine skid. With momentum it serves as a sled basically keeping the front end up.

However, if you think my new meats can't handle the deep stuff.

I woulda thought a guy talking about a deep snow run and looking for people on 37s and up would have clued you in that he wasn't planning a run that was going to play in snow drifts. C'mon.

I've done snow runs in the LP (St Helen, West Branch and Grayling) where 33's didn't cut it and the bigger tired rigs had to break trail. IN fact, we were on a run that as soon as Ironman broke a front axleshaft, he couldn't break trail in 3 wheel drive on 36's.

There is no way I would consider going to the UP with 33's.

I have driven my Hummer through a LOT of snow..... and 24" of standing snow is about all she will take.... drifts over that is ok, but standing snow much over 24" does me in.... and my Hummer is stock from a lift perspective..... Its damn hard on the truck to to get through anything over 18" and esspecially up grades....

Is this taking place north of Gaylord in the LP or north of the bridge in the UP? I was just in Grayling this past weekend where there was 8-14" of snow in most areas....

I was amazed that loosing one of my drive tires would make that big of a difference. I would not venture to this run with less than 40" rubber and reliable axles locked.

But now that this post has went into the abyss Matt will probably just call his friends and you guys with little tire, big e penis's, will be left at home wondering why you dont get invited to anything. Try reading the very first post and respond accordingly.

It's funny how offended people get when told their jeep is not adequate enough.

I know damn well I'm not equipted for a run like this. I don't know what the big deal is for some.

How many people that are not running buggies are actually running 40's?* (on this board anyway) And not counting mud trucks there are very few that would have the reliability for a run like this that I personally have seen.

*serious question

I just don't see an all day/weekend buggy run in snow to be an enjoyable day. Matt probably knows everyone on 40s is my guess, there just are not that many -- lots on 36-38" rubber though.
