Default Age of the Earth

The current general consensus is that the Earth is 4.5 billion years old.
How do we know that this estimate is factual?
What methods are used to determine this number?
Are there other methods of figuring out the Earth's age?
There are other scientist that claim that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old. They both can not be correct, who is right?

www.lifeoftheplanet.com If you look at the evidence these guys provide, the only way the earth could be 10k years old was if "god" created it. a planet cannot form itself and all the things needed to create our supply's of hydrocarbons, for example, in 10k years.

heres the problem, no matter what proof you provide, bible thumpers will simply disagree going back to theory rather then scientific method. You can't win the argument. This is when I quit opening up religious threads.

Everyone has their biases, it;s just a matter of which bias is the best bias to be biased with.

from the "about us" part of that website:

"Answers in Genesis is an apologetics (i.e., Christianity-defending) ministry, dedicated to enabling Christians to defend their faith and to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively."

:tonka:

I rank websites like that just like I do with http://theonion.com There is no proof about that hat, other then a picture and a story.

What is more believable, a church website with a picture of a hat altered in photoshop, or a website like this:
