Default Need some subwoofer advice...

For you car stereo guys...

I need a 12" sub.

Power handling doesn't need to be all that high, maybe 300-400 RMS.

I don't want to spend a fortune, but I don't want a piece of crap either.

The box i'm putting it in is a 1.05 cubic foot sealed enclosure with outside dimensions 22.25"Lx17.25"H. Its a wedge so D1 is 4.5" and D2 is 8"

Depending on the profile of the back of the sub it looks like i need a sub that has a 5" mounting depth. Thats actually the problem i'm coming up with is finding a sub that shallow. Most are like 6.5" and up.

I'd like to keep the box I have, but if i need ot get a new one i need to get a new one. I'm hoping someone will know of a brand that fits my nazi like criteria.

Thanks

How are you affording this car stereo equipment when you just dropped a decent amount of dough on a ring? Not to mention you gotta start planning a wedding. haha

That's going to be rough finding a "good" hardhitting sub with that small amount of depth.

Good luck!

Good point...but change "building" to "already built"

I really don't want to get a different box....but if i have to oh well. Thats why i'm asking if there is anything out there.

So i take it depth is a key measurement in speakers? Its not just about the volume of the box?

where are you trying to fit it mschaffer ? In the duramax ? Is it ext cab ? are you trying to keep it stealthy ?

Kinda already said but i think its backwards to use the old or wrong box since they are so cheap (compared to the price of the sub and amp), it will force a bad compromise on the sub you can use, and heck you can make a sweet custom box with 1/2" MDF and fiberglass it up so its rock hard. Then you can get the sweet sub your ears want. CUSTOM CUSTOM CUSTOM

How about this.. What are you building the box to fit in? That back of you Jeep? I have built a box that fit a 12" rockford fosgate that fit perfectly with the back seat in, and had the exactly the amount of airspace needed.

Oh for the love of god...the box is already built and sitting in the back of the TJ right now(thats the application). It has an old PPI Pro12 sub in it. Its blown...thanks to some ass hat, is a clue to who the ass hat is.

My goal was just to buy a new sub, and work a few screws and be done.

I do know though that there isn't much depth behind the seat to build a box.
