My job just asked us to take another pay cut 6%. The union siad fukc you. Now they are giving us one more chance to vote it in and again we are going to say fukc you. So they are talking about closing are doors. I say fukc them and close it down, I do not want to lose my job but I'm sick of their bull. It would cost them so much money to shut us down. So I think they are just trying to scare us into helping them out of a jam.

Hopefully it will trickle down to the smaller communities soon Miff. Around GR right now there is a two billion dollar mystery development in the works covering over 30 acres in downtown. A $77million hotel coming out of the ground and health hill(Spectrum hospital) is currently standing up a couple hundred million dollar addition to the R&D areas of health care. New small business as well as some new manufacturing are moving into west mi as well. Construction is booming right now. Our co. increased total sales over 6million from 04 to 05 topping over $30million and is expected to top that again this year. We recently finished a brand new hospital in Zeeland, Stryker industries new manufacturing facility in Kzoo and mi turkey producers new prossesing plant in GR. A lot of money is finially leaving the tight grip of those who have been weary of spending it within the last few years.
As people become comfortable spending their money, they may find themselves breaking down and spending some of it in your corner of the state.

Ok here I go.

When you loose your job because you company has decided to go over borders for cheaper labor I don't want to see a boo hoo thread. Instead of just picking up and leaving, they are asking for help. If people would get over themselves wanting higher wages, and not willing to adjust their lifestyles with the ecomony how do they expect companys to stay here. You can't get water from a rock. Would you rather get unemployment of 300 every 2 weeks or slightly less than you do now and keep a job with bennies? 6 % what does that come out to, a dollar? So for an extra 40 buck a week you are going to throw a tempertanterum? That is why unions have out lived thier usfulness. back in the day, they did good. now they are hurting more than they are helping by demanding higher wages forcing companies to skeek employers elsewhere. Good lord, tell you fellow sheep in your flock to have your shepards graciously accept the pay cut and keep on working. Keep the jobs in the USA.

Dewey, correct me if I am wrong, but the news has reported from the city mayor, that up to 10,000 jobs may be created by the "mystery" developer.

They still owe us 3% from the last time 3 years ago. We now have to pay for our insurance Health and dental which just happened this year. They laid around 45 people off and now ask us to work overtime in which they have to pay us time and a half so if they really were hurting for money we would not be working overtime. They have already went to Mexico and that has cost them a lot of money and grief and want to close that place. So it is not just 40 bucks a week.

Earlier this year I was thinking of moving to maybe KC or Milwaukee. The economy in Michigan sucks because the big three are suffering, but the rest of the country isn't hurting as badly.
Moral of the story.. support the companys that keep the local economy because the global economy only means so much.

They OWE you? Hahah no, they have "repayed" you by allowing you to work for them, and not making you one of the 45 that they laid off. Be thankful that you have a job. A common misconseption of employees is that the company is privledged to have you working there. Be thankful that you have a job. You have to pay for insurance... yeah, when I worked at a place that the UAW had thier fingers in things, people were bitching that they had to pay for insurance. that after 30+ years of getting FREE insurance they had to pay (shock) 15-30 bucks a Week, depending on which plan they had. Just be glad you have a job, take the cut, and adjust accordingly.
