heres my fix, make every eighteen year old guy, go thru a nine week generic basic training, boot camp thing..no military contracts. Just a pre train up for life, in the event of world war 3 thru 9 happening and the draft implemented then the eligable men already have the basic idea on how the military structure works works. as well maybe they will each learn a lil about healthy physivcal activity and some sense of pride, maybe just maybe this will stem some of the felong convictions. although i have no research to back my finds on..it all stems from my personal experience..so for what its worth..

physical motivated pain will cure any attitude issue....

Agree kids need a kick in the bottom once in a while. they are always testing to see how far and how much they can get away with. When my kids were in school is when no teacher dare even scold a child because of dram it may cause. WELL Hello!!!! If the child is acting up then they need to stand in a corner. or be imbarased infront of there peers. It will be a lesson they will not forget. Teachers hands are tied on how they can correct our children and the KID Damm well Know it!

School would call most parent and they would say oh not my Child.
The School Called me I would say....... What did they do today??

I was bullied alot through elementary, I got the impression that this is what it was about, since I saw far less bullying as the years went on. My name rymes with muscle, and having finally broken 100 lbs at somewhere around 5'8" in 10th grade (I gained 18 that year actually) on top of my particularly lanky structure there wasn't a single day where someone didn't chime in with "Russell has no muscle"... I wish them the worst possible misfortune.

I very nearly never went to college beacuse of it, and was very content to just never do anything outside of the house. Then one day I eventually realized what a loaner I was and decided to man up. I've been getting more hardcore ever since. I'm at 160 now, I seem to have topped out my weight for the moment, still scrawny lookin.

Our desks still had the little hole in the upper left corner. We used them during art class ..part of learning to print the alphabet using india ink pens on large pieces of "construction paper". Now how's that for dating myself?

Thumbs down

I have 2 things to add, all premised by the fact that I am an elementary school teacher and a father of two boys (6 and 4).

1. [sarcasm] Sweeeeet another law for me to learn, have professional development about, and fill out paperwork for! [/sarcasm] I hate how controlled my job is by politicians. However I understand I work for the taxpayers so I must do as our elected representatives say. Please vote and be aware of what our politicians are, "doing for us".

2. Folks who say that children need a good whoopin are correct. Most kids need a whoopin a few times throughout thier childhood. I tan my boys hides when they mess up big time. Remember your statements about whoopin kids when the school calls your house because your little darling fucked up. Please follow through with said whoopin. The teacher will be sent to jail if he or she touches your kid. Laws ruling that teachers may not dole out whoopins were made by our elected representatives.

I'm all for schools having a policy to deal with "bullies". I think the theory of "bullying build character" is a load of crap and it mostly just something adults tell kids when they are unable or unwilling to actually do something about it. Sure, it may make soeme kids tougher, but I think that more ofter in leads to low self esteem, a poor "learning environment" in school, and poor social skills.

But I also have zero confidence in a bunch of lawyers in Lansing trying to decide how to deal with such things. What I expect to come of this is some stupid "zero tolerance" policy that leaves the teachers no choices but to either ignore minor infractions and hope things don't get out of hand or report every little thing knowing that it will lead to overly harsh penalties, the result of which may be to make life even more difficult for the kid that got "bullied" in the first place. Let the teachers teach.
