Bunch of violent mfers.....good I like that

Anyways......I was that guy.
I was 19.
Stuck on top of a half buried vehicle.(whole other story)
Had drunk identical twin sisters in the jeep.
2am.
I walk out to a road to see if I can find help.
I see a dimly lit light through a window.
Guy had a big 4x4 truck parked along side of the house.
I cautiously knock.
To my surprise he answers.
I tell him my story and he comes out and pulls my jeep out

I don't think I'd want to shoot anyone either but I do have a gun and if it came down to it, I think I'd use it to protect my wife and kids.

As for answering the door, I probably would've tried to get a look at who it was. If I couldn't, I would of let the dog loose in the house. He sleeps in our room but still alerts us when there are unusual noises.

He also goes nuts when people are at the door that he doesn't know. Since he weighs in at about 100lbs and has a mean bark, people usually stay back.

Oh and I told my wife to buy him a collar with spikes.... that's what she came home with. Poor dog, first they cut off his nuts, then my wife buys him the "but it was so cute" collar......

You will be aressted and held at bond untill your court appearence though. I don't give a crap what law's you can dig up. The reality is you must avoid any type of violence whasoever. You cant even get in a fistfight these day's without having trouble. My point still stands. You cannot just assault someone let alone fire on them unless you have no means of escape. It's bullshit but that's the way it is. WHat i guess im trying to say is the book's dont mean shit, it is all up to interpretation of the court's. Just like teh c.o's interpretation of a orv trail.

Sorry for the hijack. The dog is a good idea. Does not need to be a big dog, the noise is the deterrent. Dog raises hell, intruder leaves in fear of you or your neighbor waking up.

Go to Sam's Club and buy one of those wireless camera systems. Personally I don't have that problem, and honestly if I did. It would soon be their problem. between two 45's and another hidden shotgun. I don't suggest waking me up in the middle of the night, knocking or not. Unless it's by phone. If its by phone I'll just cuss you out and hang up, rub one out and then roll over.

My opinion is that handguns are shit for home defense. 12ga pump w/ 00 buck. I have always been told that the noise of a pump shotgun is very much a deterrent for those looking to do bad things. Even just a cheap Mossberg 500 is a great home defense gun.

When I was a kid, our house was broken into while we were out of town. Scared the bejeezus out of me. Still to this day, it freaks me out thinking about it.

I also really like the dog idea.

When it happens in your home, there is a good chance you will not be arrested. That doesn't mean there isn't a chance though.

Small price to pay to be alive.

If you dont want a lethal firearm buy the shittiest used mossberg shotgun and i'll load you some very light airsoft load's.

You absolutly cannot shot someone even if they are tresspassing inside your home unless you are in a corner. As in you have no way out period other than through the trespasser. This also goes for any situation being threatened with a firearm. If you beleive otherwise you should be able to afford a very very good lawyer. In the instance that you may have to use lethal force (god forbid) you will be arrested and held for bond. Once again you cant just shoot someone.

Baseball bat's are useless in a fight and will be considered a lethal weapon in court (that is if you are fast enough to actually wind up and hit your attacker with it).

A glock or any other pistol for that matter is the worst choice for a home defense weapon. Any shotgun, full choke light #6 lead shot load.

There is more but im sick of it for a bit.
Honestly.... Does it really matter what we call it? thats what its called here. I dont do it or have only done it a couple times. So I could care less. Grow up. Its name. Douche.

bottom line. if it was just a knock at the door, you'll be back asleep sooner if you just don't answer it.

Else, if you answer it you'll be facing a nothing from kids pranking, to a potential beating, shoot-out, or worse - actually having to help someone in need that is unfortunate enough to not even be able to afford a cell phone to call someone for help...

My door is situated such that it's not obvious when I'm checking up on whomever is at my front porch, and we have fairly bright garage, and front porch lights that we run all night long due to having a sole neighbor that refuses to discipline, or raise their young teen in a fashion consistent with normally acceptable morals, or even within the laws of this state (he's got 3 counts on his record already)

As for what I've done in the past, I grab the cell phone, and either the 6 cell Mag light, or the 3 million candle power portable spot light and look for evidence of mischief/damage unless it's the dead of winter, and cold in which case it can usually wait until morning, and the tracking of footprints in the snow leading back to the jack-asses' house (yes he got caught that way once before)

You might have missed out on an "ex girlfriends visit"...

For home defence a mid size or bigger dog and a shot gun are a unbeatable combo. Always put something buy the front window, (bench ect.) so the dog can stand on it and look out the front window. My pit looks like a 3 foot tall monster when he was looking out the front window.

No one's mentioned phone the police? I know it's probably a pu$$y answer for you guys, but, if they needed help, they'll get it, if they were up to no good, might get caught?

Most people will back away from a door when there are multiple dogs barking on the other side of it. When one of them is a 243 lb dark colored Mastiff with the head the size of a basketball few people will take the warning lightly.

I have no need for lethal force. I have never been afraid at home at night, and my wife also sleeps safe and soundly. The dogs would delay anyone wanting to harm us enough for us to get the police to our place.

you could also get an alarm system. on ours you can set it off in panic mode. siren is loud enough to wake the dead and will alert the police by phone. I like our alarm as it is wireless, has chime function to let you know what window or door is being opened, and has a false override.

An alarm system is being looked into.. I'm just a little ticked that it's yet another monthly payment we have to make.. but piece of mind is priceless...

I would ignore it unless they persisted. Then I'd look out and yell, "what the f... do you want?"

With all that glass in the door if they wanted to break in they won't need your help opening the door.

if i had to knock on someones door late at night id probly knock, stand in the light with both hands clearly visible to the homeowner, dont have to reach fer the sky but even at your sides is nice, i know i dont pull stuff out in my car when i get pulled over, i wait for him to get there and then tell him what im about to do.
