Default My Shameless Request...

As most of you know, Eric and I are in the process of moving to MI. We close on our house at the end of this month and are just itching to get out there. Our one hold up is finding stable work out there. We can't justify packing up the moving truck until then.

I know we're going about things in a different order than most people would, but hey, we're not most people!

Soo... with all of that in mind, I would LOVE to hear what kind of job opportunities you all may know of in the Allegan area. (preferably within 30-40 minutes). Finding a job is always a pain, but trying to do it cross country is proving to be very difficult. I'm hoping that "knowing" someone may help us get that extra edge we need.

We're looking forward to our move and can't wait to share some fun times with many of you!

A little bit of my resume... let me know if you have any leads. Thanks!!

EXPERIENCE

REI, Issaquah, WA (September 2007 – Present)
Lead Customer Service. In charge of the set up, organization, and daily tasks of the customer service and front line departments in a new REI store. Daily responsibilities include organizing incoming orders, delegating responsibilities within a team, completing special orders, executing transactions, inventory queries, processing returns, and meeting customer needs. Coordinate lunches and breaks for teams of up to 10 people. Created instruction manuals for specialty transactions and trained staff in these areas. Currently lead the team in membership sales with more the 30 in fewer than two weeks of business. This environment requires strong organizational and customer service skills and well as solid procedure knowledge.

VOLT, REDMOND, WA (July 2006 – July 2007)
Technical Recruiter. Generated candidates for technical contingent staff on various Microsoft test teams. The Microsoft contract is Volt’s largest and most fast paced contract with each recruiter being responsible for between 15 and 25 orders at any given time. Strong organizational skills required to keep track of each manager I worked with (approximately 100) and maintain a strong candidate pool. Daily responsibilities include communication with Microsoft managers to qualify orders, candidate sourcing, and interview set up. Sourcing tasks consisted of pursuing database and job posting leads, conducting phone interviews, handling sensitive visa information, preparing candidates for interviews and brainstorming with other recruiters to fill specific or urgent positions. Scheduled and coordinated interviews involving multiple resources, including: candidates, managers, and facilities. Negotiated with candidates and managers to maintain margins. Closed candidates and kept in direct contact with managers for follow-up. This environment taught the art of efficient qualifying, moderated pressure, and consistent closing questions.

WHITE HORSE TOYS, ISSAQUAH, WA (Aug. 2001 – July 2006)
Retail Sales. Small specialty toy store that allowed for a wide variety of responsibilities. Duties included opening and closing of the store, working with customers, ringing transactions, balancing registers, processing deposits, designing displays and taking specialty orders from customers. Quickly learned product details to assist customers in finding items that met their needs. Became the “go-to” employee when customers presented a difficult need as a result of proven customer satisfaction. I learned the value of customer service and witnessed how good customer service translates into referrals and return business.

WEST COAST SPECIALTIES, BELLEVUE, WA (Aug. 1999 – Aug. 2005)
Shipping/Administration. Many years of work with this company led to a diverse experience. Initially, worked on the production floor and became familiar with the technology and industry policies. Moved on to work in the inventory department as well as assist managers on additional projects. Organized filing systems for purchase orders and invoices. Responsible for handling equipment, filing documents, and assisting wherever needed, which required a great amount of multi-tasking. Additional responsibilities led to a promotion to head of the shipping department. Daily tasks included packing parts and sending them to customers according to company and FAA regulations, prioritizing tasks to ensure on-time shipments, communicating with production to anticipate large or high priority shipments, and running a 20+ line phone system.

HOUSEVALUES, KIRKLAND, WA (March 2004 – Sept. 2004)
Media Assistant Internship. Responsible for the organization and maintenance of media invoices for the fastest growing technology company in Washington, and 9th fastest growing company in North America. Checked invoices against an orders database to check for discrepancies, which was imperative in receiving refunds or credits for mishandled orders. Communicated with television networks to resolve discrepancies and place new orders. Created marketing reports detailing competitors advertising locations and strategies. Developed and implemented a new filing system to aid in the retrieval of previous invoices.

EDUCATION

Seattle University, B.S. in Psychology (Aug. 2002 – June 2006)
University of Washington Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinic (Aug. 2005 – June 2006)

So, let me get this straight. You bought a house and plan to move to the state that has the worst economy in the nation. Yet, neither of you has a job lined up? Are insane or just stupid?

We're definitely insane. No question there.

We know it isn't going to be easy, but luckily we are in a position where we can take our time and really get what we want. Strangely enough, what we want happens to be in MI, but something will work out....

Michigan is the butthole of the country right now, and unfortunately Detroit and the U.P. are the hemoroids on the butthole of the country. Sad but true. My 5 year old MIGHT not have to get the hell out of MI to get a job when he's of age...of course Walmart always needs cart gatherers. Bye bye auto plant jobs, bye bye people. It will be at least a whole generation maybe two before MI is anyone's destination. No wonder Canda wants to dump it's trash here. Most people I talk to love MI, but have to eat too and are leaving this state. Unfortunately also, there's NOT a lot of variety of places to wheel. An avid Jeeper can cover the state in about 2 years and then we're bored. The DNR is NOT out to get people into the woods, but to keep them out. (They'll soon find that this will bite them in the butt), but that's another topic. Repeat after me: "Welcome to Walmart".

Don't get me wrong. My wife want's to leave all the time, but I love MI and want to stay. If you want to live on tight budget and make money to buy gas to go to work to buy gas to go to work to buy gas, then come on over!

No reason to feel bad. We're aware of the reality, which is why I'd like to do as much "networking" as possible. It's all about having the right resources.

It could be a while before something works out for us... until then, we just gotta keep looking and asking
