I was just about to start a thread about this exact topic.

My feeling is that Romney is telling us what he thinks we want to hear, and McCain is telling us what we need to hear.

While I do want our leadership in his state to do what they can to prevent the loss of more jobs, I would like see them focused on bringing in new jobs and industries to the region rather than chasing old jobs and trying to bring them back.

Screw china, nafta, and illegal immigrants
btw, they're "illegal aliens" - "immigrants" provides them a level of legitimacy they don't (and shouldn't) have. It's a recent media/PC invention that changed them from "Illegal aliens" to "undocumented immigrants".

Why do politicians continue to make these outlandish claims that they will create jobs if they are elected? I am calling FOUL here. They are government officials. This is the USA. Our economy is capitalism based. This is not communist China or socialist Argentina, where the government owns all companies. If John McCain really wants to create some jobs in Michigan he should quit campaigning and open a factory here.

All anyone needs to say is, "Granholm is bad for michigan, If I am elected I will kick her to the curb for Michigan." They would have my vote.

Our economy sucks. I left the state for 1 week and I was shocked how well other states economies are. I thought the whole US was having problems, no even close. Michigan is in a tailspin to ecomonic distruction. I surely believe that the President is going to have to do something to bail this state out. So if you think that they are making false statements on what they are going to do, I am sorry. But this coming election is very important to Michigan, the people of Michigan and it's economy.

I agree. We went to Pittsburgh for a game at Christmas time and their local economy seemed a lot better than ours. The Igloo was packed and those seats are damn expensive compared to the joe. The downtown area was active and people were out shopping/eating dinner. It was really refreshing.

The only people that think MI is worth living in any more are the people who have not been outside of the state recently. And those with family ties so strong that they dont care how bad it gets. For the latter, I salute you, but do not envy you.

I am in St Paul now after living nearly my whole life in the Detroit suburbs. It is eleventy billion times better here - no homeless, no arsons, less murders, good economy, tons of world HQ for business, vibrant shopping districts, lots of parks, fishing, etc. When I go back to MI to visit family it is utterly depressing. Ghetto fabulous may be a better phrase perhaps.

my girlfriend and i moved here to texas, and couldn't believe the differences from michigan. for one, there are statewide "sales-tax free" weekends once or twice a year, where the things that people need to live (ie baby diapers, clothes, school supplies, etc...) are not taxed the 8% sales tax! jobs are plentiful, and people have positive outlooks! the difference is amazing, and until i see the same from michigan, where i was born and lived 23 years in, i hate to say it, but i won't come back

We are tied to Michigan still. it would take a big money crunch for us to ever move. Marv was raised on this peice of land and so were our kids and now our grandkids play here. I sure hope that it never gets so bad in michigan that we have to move, or sell this property. and who would buy it at this point?? only someone that would give us half or less what it was worth..

That article closes the deal for me; I'm voting for McCain.

IMHO, he has served our country (beyond a reasonable doubt, as Bush Sr. also did) , and seems interested in helping Michigan.
