Well Yeah, they're human. I'm just saying that they know what a 2wd can handle compared to a 4wd. They've been trained in both. They deffinatly are not just some person from the city who has never seen a two track ya know? Just looking at it from my perspective.

And what is your perspective? Do you work from the DNR?

I can tell you I have been utterly amazed at things I have driven through/over in 2wd and I have seen other people who are absolutely amazed that a 4wd truck can make it through a puddle.

WE as a 4x4 usergroup may know what a 2wd/4wd can go through, but I can promise the general public (even those who have 4 wheeled a couple times with a friend or their own vehicle) have no clue how capable even a 2wd truck could be.

The point is that law will always be left to interpretation, any law left to interpretation is a bad law imo.

I totally disagree.

Wow, you guys get a lot done while I'm at work! :tonka:

The conversation leads me to ponder . . .

Maybe it's less about differences in understanding the capabilities of a particular vehicle class and more about ideological differences in what constitutes damaging behavior.

Some COs (particularly the older ones who've been around a while) know a vehicle in 4WD that's not churning dirt 40' in the air will leave little, if any, trace after the next good rainfall, while those who were brought up with a more "You have to keep people out of the woods to keep them from destroying it" viewpoint are more quick to denounce motorized recreation in general as damaging to the forest because it leaves a "trace".

I'm speechless, that's all I can say.
I just got my second reply from the Car and Driver folks and I convinced they not only live on another planet, they also live in another dimension in time.
He indicated my complaint and C&D's reply will be in a forth coming issue. Stay tuned to see how bad we (I) get portrayed.
If he massacres me I'll post up my actual replys to set the record straight..

I can even shoot them something Jim. I have subscribed to that mag for @ 10 years. Based on my years of reading the rag, they tend to be less harsh on long-term subscribers. But then again, God knows what they haven't printed over the years.

I guess the more responces the better, but I always wonder what they will say, no matter how long you have been a subscriber

Up until last Friday I was still conversing with Steve Spence. I would expect the 'letters to the Editor' to appear in May or June.

Well, all I hope for is the DNR to go after them and teach them a lesson in operating vehicles offroad.

From a common sense standpoint, they didn't do anything wrong. From a legal standpoint, they did. It's our stupid laws in Michigan that they broke like driving on the beach.

The problem is that by them doing that and showing it in the mag, it tells every newbie that it's OK to drive on the beach. Then it just fuels the fire with the DNR that all of us are driving on the beach.

Stupid scenario that just gets worse.

Jim,
Your letter and their response is in the May issue I got a couple days ago. I am at work so I can't scan it in.
