your hydrolock caused a hole in your oilpan?

hahahaha..

you must have ONE HELL OF A STARTER!

lol

unless you hydrolocked last month, left water in your cylinders, then decided today to get the water out, and run at 5000 rpm's with rusty cylinders :)

Yeah.. Hydrolocking usualy involves parts that stop moveing.. not to shoot out through your oil pan. You probably threw a rod then the motor seized due to lack of oil.

My assumption is also coming from the amount of dirt under there that would have been washed off if you were in deep enough water to hydolock :miff: :miff: :miff:

the "hole" was less than 1.5 feet deep, he hit it at about 40 and 4000rpm. When water entered #1 cylinder and the motor was spinning at 4k, something had to give, it was the rod. The thing still was running and he drove out of the puddle and it died. He shut the key off, pulled the air box, went "oh shit" and then noticed the hole in the pan. Starting was not attempted, the rod snapped and went crazy. This is the 3rd 4.0 I have seen do this...guess I did not think this type of failure was that unique when hydrolocking.

Default 40 mph at 4000rpm ??????

i might be just me, but i never do that!! i never go into deep water at 40 mph or at 4000rpm, just seems like a bad idea to me?? mabey thats why your buying a used engine fro 1200.00$$ that kinda money would have bought you a nice winch, and u could drive in at a normal speed and pull your self out. plus its easier to install a winch!!!

same type of failure happened to my best friend at the milford proving grounds about 15 years ago. he was working as an intern, on the survey crew for their efforts to repave their "black lake" - something like 10 acres of nearly perfectly flat pavement.

his vehicle was a 4x4 suburban, with a then "experimental" engine. I can't remember which one it was, but the mechanics told Scott it was for the vette. (precursor to the LS1/2? no idea really)

anyway, he was driving - late summer heavy rain fall/thunderstorm.

all that rain water ran off from the black "lake" and into a nearby retention pond. (insert peer pressure) crew egging him on to drive through it.

he did.

"Great big wall of green water over hood".

it died in the middle of the hole, with water lapping at the side windows of the burban...

yeah, he still had a job, but he also had quite a few jokes made at his expense.
