I don't know.

GoogleEarth doesn't say I live on "Grosse Island". :miff:

it's about 1/2 that actually (22,000+/- sq ft not counting basement, or gym).

Mr. Thomas Hammond (as mentioned the ceo of flagstar) owns it. it also shows up on maps.live.com 's birdseye view if you wanna take a peek around back. It is huge, but the architecture is uninspired. another fun fact - mr. hammond owned the 'cottage' that my inlaws bought back (they were the original owners) out in Canadian Lakes. Supposedly he had never been to the place - bought it on a whim, and then rented it out. (it's a 2,400+/- sq ft prow pt on the water)

While not normally my style, I actually prefer Mr. Moceri's house on Silverbell, with the cascading waterfall - the commercial office style, wave glass wall on the golf-course side and the oriental inspired swimming/wading pool with integral gazebo.

I agree with you about presentation from the road, but the silver bell house is presented to the course.
that's Moceri's house.

I figured you meant the one on the east side of brewster sitting on 20 acres of essentially 'lawn'. mis-read the original post.

Bill Davidson. He owns Guardian Industries, Guardian Glass, as well as his obvious interests in the Pistons, the Palace of Auburn Hills, and "that hockey team" down in North Carolina if I recall correctly, etc.

it's 25,000+/- sq ft above grade, as measured by the assessing office, which should correlate roughly with the as-built plans.

Mr. Foss, the CFO of Penske holdings is building a 27,000+/- sq ft (above grade -not counting basement) house right in down town village of franklin - featuring not only an indoor pool, but a revolving book-case to hide the servant's quarters from the rest of the "family home". The Master suite is 2+ stories high, and her walk-in closet features an exercise area as well as an area for a masseuse.

The one on the east side of Brewster is the Flagstar guy.
I heard it was 70K sq ft. for him and his wife, no kids.

That number came from a Moceri.

nowhere near 70k sq ft - even if one did include the basement and gym. (for shits n giggles I checked the sketch performed by the assessor)

Oakland Township is under contract with my old employer to perform the assessing services - they physically measure each and every house to the .1 of a foot (from the exterior) in order to calculate gross square footage to utilize in their mass appraisal model. Other assessors may round to the nearest 1/2 foot, or even round to the nearest whole foot - so long as they are uniform within their assessing jurisdiction it all nets out in the valuation model/methodologies

for what it's worth - assessing records (including the property sketches) are a matter of public record. Most are not easily found online, but as an example Oakland County has a pay-for-service online application where one can access many of the jurisdictions inside Oakland County to review assessing/tax records, as well as the digital sketches of the buildings (if any).

Just remember that 12/31 is tax day for the following year - so for example if a house is being built in the spring/summer of 2008, and you inquire as to the status of that record/sketch in that same year - it will be based on the vacant parcel as of 12/31/2007 and thus vacant...

further - BSAsoftware.com is the prevailing vendor for software for assessing and taxation systems in Michigan. They operate their PRD database with varied participation among their clients and have many municipalities' data hosted - including many 'up north'

Bill Davidson doesn't have interests in the Pistons, he owns them. He also owns the The Tampa Bay Lighting not the Carolina Hurricanes. That would be Karmanos.

yeah, I screwed up on the hockey team. I'm also guessing that when I stated "interests" that most people would have understood that more than likely he doesn't have ownership in his own name per se' but rather than through various holding companies and llc's.

and everyone in this thread that has posted "what they heard" about sizes of houses are smoking crack. the square footages I posted were posted while I was accessing the actual assessing records, and comparing the sketch performed by the field appraiser in the field - which are then typically verified against the prints.

Hammonds house is under 40k square feet even if one includes the finished basement, and the Gym, and the garages...

yup. When i said that, was just a roug guess from driving by. Looking at the aerial views, I can see it would be less, since its not too deep.

hammond built that house to look as big/imposing as possible, and as I said I personally think that it's architecturally uninspired. This is one that I didn't get a chance to take much of a personal look at/in at my former job, but the main appraiser that gathered the data indicated that he had seen much higher quality inside/outside in houses 1/5th the size quite routinely.

like many mentioned, it's all about the "look at me I'm wealthy" with him,

Folks like Davidson, and others also obviously have quite a bit of entertaining and/or 'benefit dinners' etc. and host GIANT/lavish events. oh, and Bill's house has not one, but two indoor basket ball courts - one has an upper observation deck...
