all through this nobody quoted anything about riparian rights?

I don't care if the lake is entirely surrounded by privately held land (crescent isn't, as the road right of way nudges against the water's edge in more than one spot, not to mention the canals down by elizabeth lake road) - the water, and the bottom lands are in fact owned by the public. In order to protect the welfare, and property of the public, the law enforcement community can/will do so if pushed hard enough.

AJ. you may not realize this, but OCSD/WaterfordPD can enter onto even private property when they have probable cause (not hard to see a truck illegally trying to imitate a submarine) - they also have these neat things called helicopters, and while they typically are not used for marine rescue and deployment, they in fact could be.

Putting a motor vehicle into a lake will bring the The Man down on you.

Been there, done that, got the survival suit. If I had $10 for every moron who drove onto the lake and dunked his vehicle or had the ice drift away from shore I'd be a millionaire.

That picture's a little after my time - we had the HH-52s that came before these Dolphins.

My favorite was back in the mid-80s when a bunch of folks went ice fishing on a warmish day in mid-Feb. The wind changed and opened a 200 yard-wide opening between the ice floe and shore.

Over 100 people were evaced to shore - leaving their trucks, snow machines, ATCs, and gear on the ice. One belligerent SOB had a 6 week-old Suburban out there, and demanded we retrieve it. We explained that we retrieve people, not trucks. After the normal rant ("I'm a taxpayer...") this classic old-school CPO with us (if you know what I'm talking about, you know what I mean) walked over, opened the door and tied a 50' line to the steering wheel. Then he tied a lifejacket to the other end and threw it on the hood of the 'burb. The guy asked what he was doing and the Chief told him this was to let us know where it was after it went into the drink so that he could come get it. He then started reciting all the costs (20 gallons of gas into the lake, few gallons of oils into the lake, introducing a hazard to a navigable waterway...

The guy's insurance company airlifted it off two days later. I can't imagine what that cost.

My point is that we don't need the pics posted on a public forum of any douche parked/stuck in a lake. Regardless of how it is looked at, its irresponsible and reckless. And when do you need to drive on ice to shine lights on it to see if its frozen over?

Driving on ice vs busting through into a lake-two pretty different things

I can't beleive their's only a few voices of reason on this

100% agree. I think the site is being a little harsh on him though.

i made a simple suggestion in my first post, nobody has to listen, or hell even acknowledge my post. But asshat here decides to attack a suggestion like i was calling him out. And this site being harsh, okay i'm being harsh on him. Read back through my posts or those of others. I made a ligit comment and was civil about it. And he replies like i am making a personnal attack on him and were the ones being harsh. Yeah their are a few that are outrageous harsh out of the box, but he brings alot back onto himself with replies to non-harsh posts

on a side note, hey AJ that kid still has the Burb and he might let it go real cheap with the axles still under it.

The reality of this event is that his front wheels sunk in the mud and he was stuck and exagerated the situation. Had it not been AJ it never would have hit over 100 posts.

As far as posting pics? You guys are just a little paranoid. In this land of "Private Land" we lose land to shopping malls not because of pics posted on the web.
DNR is selling off michigans birthright (public land) for the almighty dollar to build on, not because some 19 year old drove in the mud.

on edit: And yes, everyone does need to wheel-it responsibly.

well I tried to top A.J. earlier today. I went to my pond to see how thick the ice was and to see if we could ride quads on it. being 350lbs I put down a few pounds per square inch so I am a good test of ice. anyways I only fell through on one end where I know theres a spring, I even saw about an 8" fish swim by in the clearer thin ice. needless to say I went up and got the kids and we spent an hour doing dounuts and grinding down the remaining cat tails.
