Yep, apartently, buying a few more cardboard boxes would have broke the budget:miff: Test jump 15 looked pretty good, though.. more or less did the flip.

Even my wife said "they brought in 3million in dirt for the landing ramp the size of the football field but couldnt get the other guy 25 dollars worth of boxs in case he went 10 feet too far". I said "guess not". The truck jump would have been way cooler.

Yep, sounded like the fancy kicker doo-dad on the ramp malfunctioned and sent him almost straight up with no rotation. I've been searching for video all morning and can't find any yet.

Here is a copy and paste from his website

Rhys Injured in Backflip Testing

Rhys Millen was involved in an accident while preparing to be the first person to backflip an off-road racing truck at the Red Bull Experiment in Las Vegas on Monday, December 31.

We have been informed by Rhys Millen Racing's management team that Rhys has incurred non-life threatening injuries and is currently being medically treated at a local hospital.

Red Bull has a strong history working with athletes who push the limits and always employs safety as its first and primary concern. However, this is an unfortunate accident, and we wish Rhys a quick and healthy recovery. Additional information will be disclosed when it becomes available.

RHYS MlLLEN QUOTE:
“After successfully landing the 360-degree backflip three times into the cardboard boxes in training, I am disappointed that our last jump ended in an accident. As I lay here in the hospital with three broken vertebrae in my neck and two compressed and broken vertebrae in my back, I am also disappointed that we cannot perform the 360-degree backflip at the Red Bull Experiment on New Year's Eve, but I'm happy that I will be able to walk again. I look forward to watching Robbie Maddison do his 300-plus-foot motorcycle jump in Las Vegas.”

Please direct all media inquiries to Jordan Miller at:

The backflip would have been awesome, I watched the footage they did play of the practice runs last night.

The bike jump was ok, though I find it funny they keep comparing these guys to Evel Knievel. Knievel used a bike 2-3x as heavy with barely any suspension compared to these new ones.

Here is video of the ramp with a backflip teaser: http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vi...04&fr=&cache=1

I still think the bike jump is a bit crazier.

Are you kidding me?! They didn't forsee the possibility of the truck over shooting the landing. Geez man, that guy got really hurt for no good reason.
