ok, you are right....

Now, Take a look at this picture... Look close, because this is only one of four MTVR's with this special "unit"...
hint.... it deals with that large box and the driveshaft.

What is it?

I just noticed something.

heh, it's pretty easy to see who's "online" vs. invisible.

the "offline" folks are clearly offline, yet my little status indicator just shows a blank in that spot.

o.O

It a supercapacitive regenerative braking system. The first of its kind mounted to any military vehicle..

The person in charge of the company who installed it, told me that the system costs around 80,000 dollars installed... It will alter the MPG of this truck from 4.1 to 7.8. Almost 100% more... Which is amazing... This truck doesn't have any brakes, at all.. It is totally slowed down through resistance with gears in that giant "hump" in the driveshaft... Resistance, creates electricity, which in turn moves the engine electronically until the power is gone, then it switches back to gas... One brake from 50 mph, will get the truck back moving to 35 mph without using any energy from fuel. Also, after a brake from 50 mph, it can do a snail crawl off electricity for 20 minutes over level ground, making almost zero noise.

3 MPG? Not a big difference? He showed me the literature on how one gallon of diesel to the front lines of the war in Iraq cost around 171 dollars a gallon to get it there.

I was skeptical too..

Oh yeah, I had a crapload of fun at the Dana testing grounds today... I can't even talk about where it is.. :tonka:

Silly national security
