Default So I have only flown once... how do I get my snowboard on a plane?

I just found out I am getting sent to a conference in VT.... and the hotel I booked is at the base of Mt Snow

Serious question though, how do I take my board on a plane, more importantly how do I get it on there without being lost, damaged or stolen.

put it in a bag and check it with your luggage like people do skies, golf clubs etc

you may end up having to pay like $25 for oversize baggage but that should be it

Put it in a snow board bag or case (get a padded one so it is protected) and "check it".
Just as you would a suitcase.

Depending on the airport...they will have a ski claim area...or like DTW...you will have to claim it at the oversized baggage area.

Very easy.

I just didn't know if that was it or not... I have never checked baggage either :tonka:

Anyone been to Mount Snow? I have to decide which board to take, my snowcross board, or my alpine board. No idea on terrain, but I know they have powder there too....

Edit: I have to change flights once with a layover do they automatically move my checked baggage from one plane to the other?

Obvious answer: get a snowboard bag.

Advice:
1. Protect your edges. I wrap my board with body pillows which I use at my destination.

2. Watch the bag weight. Try to keep it under 50#. I haven't packed my board in a while, but I don't recall getting taxed for a ski/snowboard bag, only weight. Also, lugging around anything greater than 50# without wheels is a major PITA.

If you don't want to buy a bag, I'd loan you mine.

also, go buy some big "FRAGLE" stickers and slap them all over whatever your putting the board in. I did this for my bowcase when I flew to Vegas.

i ski mount snow multiple times a year. its a large mountain, i cant speak too much about the snowboarding only areas, but mount snow is really setup more for the slopes, not so much jumps and stuff, although they do have a halfpipe and a few trails setup for terrain park area.

which airport are you flying into Hartford? albany?

Should they or will they? They should. That doesn't mean that they will.

I will have to buy one, I should have one anyway -- sounds like something good to tell the parents I want for Christmas, thanks for the offer though.

Snowboard only areas? Does this mean I cannot board the entire hill? I don't do many jumps after I got put in the hospital for a week from one in 96, I just like to carv down the mountain.

Is this just a reference to them losing it? or I seriously may need to pick it up and switch it. I am only switching planes, not airlines.

Save money and buy a gun case instead.

Try to do carry on before you check it.

FYI, this was a joke.

I had actually thought about buying a hard gun case and carving out the foam for the board. (previously) :tonka:

Don't forget a steel pipe for protection and a few misc. electronics and your lucky bullet shell key chain.

as for luggage change... the airline will handle it... and they do occassionally lose bags...

when i say snowboard only areas, as in restricted to boards and trick skis, but you can board the entire mountain... i recommend the trail called ripcord... the only trail on mount snow i have not done...

also if you dont want to drag your board across the country, just rent one, there are soooooo many places to rent equipment off the mountain... good way to try a new board.

1) since 9-11 baggage changeovers have gotten alot better since your only supposed to fly with your bags now, i.e. they should only be on your plane. I have flown 95,000 domestic miles this year, checking bags 90% of the time, only had my bags not make it once.

2) Fragile stickers = baggage handlers seeing how much distance they can get with it on the tarmac... leave them off

yeah dont see what a fragile sticker is gonna do, or how it would stay. if its in a snowboard bag, im pretty certain they will know what it is...

Id take a picture of it beforehand in case it does get "lost" but usually lost shit just gets delayed

Last time I went skiing out west, I boxed my ski's and sent them to the hotel FEDEX. Called the hotel and let them know what was going on. When I arrived there they were waiting for me, and I didn't have to lug them through the airport.
Return trip went the same way.......
