Is this fiction....obviously. Does it contain a message that God is evil and Satan was defending mankind......yes. Your question "Did you ever stop to think that, had 'Satan' won this war of good/evil, that he would have called himself God, and the 'God' he cast down would have been called Satan? Hmm?" and "I've read quite a lot of fantasy, and I can tell you that this rings true nearly unilaterally across the genre." is a perfect example of my concern that such messages can mislead individuals. Thank you for that example.
It's misleading to know and understand that something is completely made up and has no bearing whatsoever on my existence or opinions? How precisely does that work? The question about Satan and God was posed simply because I think you are taking this far to seriously. If anyone can believe a story that has talking bears and magic as parts of the main plot line, and change their beliefs because of it, there was something wrong there to begin with.

Oh, sorta like reading a book with guys that are 900 years old, guys that can split bodies of water in half to walk thru, turn water into wine, put 3 brothers into a fire and they don't burn? That kind of fantasy stuff that people change their beliefs over?

Yes - it does. If you're so tolerant, why can't you tolerate Christian intolerance instead of pushing your belief of tolerance onto us?

That has to be one of the stupidest comments posted to the internet. Congratulations on reaching new depths of stupidity. Your parents must be proud.

I'm tolerant in that I am not telling you what you have to believe, but rather providing you with context in which to set your own beliefs. I simply provided you with text from the movie/books. Your desire to have your kids watch without this preface is your choice.

That is the definition of tolerance that I live by. Provide them education and let them decide for themselves.

Just to clear something up.....the Catholic Church does not decry this movie....some fanatical Catholic league does. The Catholic Church does not dissapprove of Harry Potter...that is a fundamental Christian stance. I subscribe to several Catholic newspapers and periodicals and they often quote Harry Potter and the fight between good and evil.

I am a devout Catholic, I loved the DaVinci code ( and so did my parish priest) It is fiction for ADULTS who can think. I have read the Dark Materials trilogy by Pullman. I loved the books but I am horrified that they are marketed for CHILDREN. They are anti- Catholic and anti religion. They are enjoyable fiction for adults but not kids.

They did tone down the Church bashing a bit in the movie. I just hope it doesn't set up ignorant parents to unsuspectingly buy the books for their kids.
