Let him go Chevy. The new Silverado is sweeeeet (I should know... I drive one )

Always keep a jeep as a trail rig though. The full size is just a tow rig.

All the new KK is a re-badged KA (nitro)....if he's drove one of those he's drove the liberty.

Just bought a new Liberty for my wife. It's nice, but it's not for wheeling if that's what he's thinking of it for. It's redesigned from the old liberty which definitely looks like a chick Jeep. The new liberty with the squared off front, makes me feel like it's less of a chick Jeep. The interior is nice, but the blind spots are pretty bad, the windows are kind of small in the back. The Jeep drives nice and doesn't feel tippy like the old Liberty did. We also drove a Commander which drove like shit, the transmission felt terrible and it does not have 4-Lo, it has AWD. we drove the patriot as well, but that is IFS/IRS and completely a car. So if you want to keep him Jeep SUV and not get a Wrangler, than the Liberty is the best choice of the new vehicles. (I didn't drive a Grand Cherokee because they are too expensive).

Make sure you drive the thing at highway speeds with one back window rolled down and all the others rolled up

Helicopter effect anyone:tonka:

The commander is build on the grand cherokee platform
The liberty on the nitro platform
The patriot/compass on the caliber platform

I drove the 3.7L and the sales guy even admitted that the thing sucked shifting from 1st to 2nd.

It had the Quadra-Trac I - No Low range - Gay!

That's because you're driving an extremely underpowered heavy vehicle. The trans that's in there probably isn't set-up for the 3.7L in a heavy vehicle like that. It's not going to have the nicer 4WD options because you were driving the base model with the base powertrain.

Totally true. If your in the market for an under $35k vehicle, don't get a Commander because the Quadra-Trac II and V-8's are only available in the Limited and the Overland packages which are $39,620 & $44,545.

Kinda sucks. I'm not a huge fan of how you can't get the drivetrain you want without it somehow being tied to the trim level.

I remember looking at the new Dakotas when they came out and wanting a six speed with the 4.7L but you could only get that with a stripped down version. The mid to high trim levels came with an automatic and nothing else.

If you know how to shop you can find a base model with stuff you want..

I paid about $31,000 for a commander with a 4.7 v-8, quadratrac II (4-low and full-time) and towing package. Just didn't get chrome and bling. IIRC getting one with adjustable pedals was the item to look for. Upgraded base model.

I didn't get the Hemi, locking diffs, DVD and bling and saved 10k easy for a model that is damn near equal to the limited.

Again...miss-informed....they are giving Commanders away. Mine was $42,000 LIST (5.7 Hemi fully loaded except for the DVD crap that I didn't need...and I had them take off the 6-spoke polished chrome wheels and put the 5-spoke brushed ones on so I didn't look so East-side)....walked out the door paying less than $32,000....Jeep's misfortune is my gain.

When it's paid off next year I'll be jacking it up a couple of inches and putting new meats on. I want to take it on the trail, but it's the wife's vehicle and those all-seasons wouldn't get me very far.

Just went off the Jeep website for their prices. For wheeling sake I wouldn't buy one, for $32k I'd get a Wrangler. But for a wife's car if it had a V-8, maybe it wouldn't suck like the V-6 I drove. For a wife's car, the Liberty was much cheaper than $32k for my circumstances.

Well...you'll pay that for a Wrangler or a Liberty since they are actually in demand....I'll take a Commander with a Hemi for the same price though.

List is list and net is net.....

The same price?!

Liberty Sport 4x4 $22,600, Limited $26,800

Wrangler 2 door X $19,320, Sahara $24,775, Rubicon $27,880

Now a Wrangler 4 door might get close to a Commander's $32k price tag:

X - $24,910, Sahara $28,150, Rubicon $30,890

I guess they don't have Hemi's but I would never care to have a Hemi in a top heavy SUV anyway, a Hemi in a challenger or a charger, now we're talking.
