Default What motor????

just scored a 1978 ford F250.dana 60 front and rear,4.10 gears. i would like to know what motor is in it so i could sell it. the owner said that it was a 400ci. i would like to know for sure.72,640 original miles.:chiefwoohaw:

all that to ask how do i find out exactly what motor it is?

I would guess that it is the 400. The one I bought had the same. Sell it to me for 500

Could be 351W or a 460BB. Check the vin number it might tell you something.

every 8 lug F250 from the late 70's i have come across has been a D44 HD........sure its a D60 being a F250?

and yeah probably a 351 400M, it used to have a sticker on the drivers valve cover saying motor size, but i would assume that would be worn off by now

The 4th letter in the vin will be the engine code.

G= 302
H= 351M
S= 400
J= 460

it has the snow plow package so it has the 60, also i checked the numbers on the axle.it also has the dual piston calipers, i dont think the 44 comes with that.

To clear some things up.
The 460 was not an option in 79, so I would think that it would be the same for 77-79 era.
The F250's with the snow fighter package, high GVWR, or ordered from Ford came with 60's.
