you will have to use some of the old sensors due to the wiring harness being different for obd2. other than that it should be the same. if you have the comp and the wiring harnes from the 98, then your golden. have fun.

I believe the 95 had EGR an the 98 does not so you will have to change intakes. Also the 360 in externally balanced so you will need a torque converter from a 360(or maybe a 360 flexplate I think they changed were they weighted them at some time around then also). I also think the flexplate is different between the 95 and 98 but you should be able to tell by looking at them. thats all I can really think of. and what noodles said

so far i have changed out the intake, put my headers on because of the 318 intake having the EGR and 360's dont. then found out the oil pan is different from the dakota to the full size 4x4 so i swapped the oil pan and pick up going to install today have pics soon. i think the 318 was a little wore out i can turn her over by hand with the plugs in turning the crank pully. hahaha only has 150,xxx miles maybe a little hard on her huh??

your going to need the flex plate and torque converter for the 360 for sure. the 360 is external balance motor where the 318 is not. or do i have them backwards?

That is correct, the 318 is internally balanced.I did the swap, I used the 318 torque converter and ordered the balanced flexplate from summit racing for 75$. The 318 was out of an 84 (LA block) and the 360 (Magnum) was out of a 98.

flex plate from the 360 was used cause it had the weight on it i also got lucky cause they changed from the ofset 4 bolt holes witch i had, to 90* holes so i didnt have to change the converter. but if the flex plate had the 90* holes all you have to do is a lil grind and it lines up not anough to worrie about on the balance so i was told. runs strong getting the true duals bent up and put on with dynomax mufflers right now. sorry no pics yet will have them soon.

no you shouldnt. I took out my 318 and built a 408 stroker. I do have running issues, but they were there before with the 318. so jumping from the 318 to the 360 should not be an issue.

no issues with the computer everything went well besides the flex plate! different spacing and you have to use a 360 flex plate because they are externaly balanced and 318 at internaly balanced! used my 318 intake and headers also. o and take a look at your oil pan had to use the one off the 318 too because my 360 was out of a ram witch is a different style then a dakota!

i am still learning how to use this site. i'm sure you will see a couple of questions that you have already answered. thanks guys. i'm pullin the harness and computer from the99 and setting it aside. swaping the intakes is much easier. now i just need a 4x4 tail shaft & housing for a nv4500. thanks again, B
