Default help

i have a 1994 f-150 ext. cab short bed with a 302 and an e40d trans and it is only getting 10 miles to the gallon i have just done a tune up new plugs wires cap and rotor and it still gets ten miles to the gallon any help would be appreciated on this it is killing me

if you have a haynes manual do the check for codes procedure, sounds like 02 sensor or plugged cats, but the first step is pull those codes from the computer, you can also check fordfuelinjection.com lots of good info on how to diagnose this kind of problem

City or highway? How friendly with the throttle are you? whats your gear and tire size?

thing is that it has new cats and o2 sensor could a bad tranny have anything to do with it

city and highway very easy on the throttle no fast take offs and i do 65 on the freeway

10-12mpg is normal for those trucks, they are horrible on gas, my '93 F-250 only got 4-6mpg

I am going by memory here but seems like there was an issue with running the #7 and 8 spark plug wires next to each other caused a low power/ poor fuel economy problem. try routing them as far away from each other as you can and see if that changes anything. this may have been on the earlier 302 86-90 era truck engines with the 302 firing order vs. yours should use the 351w / 302 HO firing order.
