the pully is pressed onto the water pump shaft and the front of the pully is threaded. the fan clutch threads on to the pully. so you have to hold the pully while turning the nut on the fan clutch. theres a special wrecnh for it and its made of 1/4" and it has 2 bolts in it that go in holes on the face of the pully to hold it.

get a strap wrench to hold the pully and a big ass cressent wrench. works every time for me

The dealers usually just use an air hammer and bust it loose. Much quicker than the wrench if you have one.

right on the big nut in the center?

Yeah, they just set the tip about 1/16 of an inch from the side of one of the faces on the nut. Just make sure you are driving it the right way. I can't remember if it is reverse thread or not, but I am pretty sure it is. I usually jammed a big long screwdriver in behind the water pump pulley and then smacked a huge crescent wrench with a 5 pound sledge to break it loose. Probably not the best on that pulley though...
