The Renucci House down in Grand Rapids.

They put up families that can't afford hotels that have kids in ICU in DeVos.

I think part of it SHOULD go to GLFWA

But I think some should also go somewhere else as it projects a good image of us wheelers, and because it is needed worse than we do. something like 25-50% to GLFWA and the rest to another charity.

Edit: how about save the forest fun, that will throw the greenies for a loop :tonka:

I think that is where I stayed when Casey was in the Spectrum Health-Butterworth Campus. Very cool place. I would have had to live in the Bronco for a few weeks if they weren't there.

No other thoughts on what charities you would like to see supported in 08 at the Gig? Good ideas so far, let me know if there are any others.

I have a thought. GLFWDA, GL4x4, Sundowners, all worked towards Toys for Tots this year. If we as a Group and all the clubs made a commitment to work with there local areas to help them Plus give them some of the Gig money, I am sure they have expences that need to be filled with Cash. (gas, wrapping paper etc) To pick a Date across Michigan to collect these toys with Businesses, weather it be K-Mart, Wallmart, or what ever with our Rigs Parked out front for them to fill with toys as they do there christmas shopping.(Kids and Men love to look at our rigs) It will only be a plus for all involved.

The Stores, Toys for tots, and the wheeling community.

I believe that the activities they do kept my father fighting (terminal illness) for at least an extra year. He loved the place.

Veterans have done SO much for us, that ANYTHING we can give back is the least we can do.

Always good for PR for Autoclubs to donate to local Women's shelter(s) or programs like MADD.

GLFWDA

United Land Action fund

OR . . .

It looks like there's a good chance there will be a "NEW" fund set up very soon to help defray the LEGAL COSTS for the Appeal of the Huron-Manistee National Forest's 2006 Forest Plan. Attorney's fees are going to be the primary factor for consideration when deciding if it's affordable to file. If won, this Appeal would make it much, much, much easier for enthusiasts to keep trails open on our National Forest lands. More to come on this, but word that other organizations were willing to assist with the legal expenses might go a long way toward making this a reality.

GLFWDA to support the very thing those that come to the Pig Gig enjoy. Direct benefit.

Split it with a local charity. And I mean something local to the venue. Would show support for the local community. MSG DOA did this on Drummond.

I would say to donate it to some charity locally. Big charities with nationally known names get big donations from around the country, local shelters/soup kitchens, dog rescues, etc get very little national attention, thus less money.

Ok going to say it. Giving to GLFWDA would be like giving it to yourselves. Are we not a group working together for the better of our sport?

Then it would be a fund raiser not a donation.

Am I the only one that thinks this way??

Thats my thought, as well. I prefer helping someone in need, instead of helping me have another playground.

GLFWDA is a NON-PROFIT it is NOT a club it is an assocation. They fight to keep trails open, rather then fighting to get money toward cancer research.

It is not 'giving it to ourselves', yes we could directly benefit (if trails open, or stay open), but so would the rest of the great lakes areas and communities in them through the added tourism that a nice 4wd trail system would draw.

Basically it is a fund raiser for EITHER group since you have a bunch of people getting together to pool the money and donate it in a lump sum.

Another? Count the number in Michigan, and count the ones you would go to on a regular basis. Drummond, Silver Lake, the Mounds, and parts of the West Branch/Rose City trail system? That is about it.

I understand the need for donating to Cancer, the Veterans, and other types of charities, however OHV trail use is a charity case and in great need these days for this state as well. Snowmobilers get what they want because they put the money into it, 4x4 people honestly don't, touch a snowmobile trail with a quad or dirtbike and watch them get outraged, try to close a snowmobile trail and see what happens, try to CLOSE a jeep/truck trail and see how many people respond to it (not many). (this has been getting better lately though)

Call me selfish I guess, I dontate to the other causes through the year, but with an event like PG, you could easily raise a SUBSTANTIAL amount of money and divide it win/win in my book.
