Dodge vs Chevy Dana 60

Is there any reason that a chevy is more desireable then a dodge?

Both are Kingpin axles.

the only real difference I see is the dodge has 2.5" wide spring perches and the chevy is 3" wide.

Am I missing something?

um the 87 up dodge and chevy ones are the same axle from what i was told.

external hubs equal piece of crap and costly to upgrade i got hosed when i bought my first 60 it was a chevy bom number but some put dodge outers on it.

but what if he could buy the whole truck part it out and basicly get the axles for a couple hundred??? worth it or not?

If it's under a dodge make sure it's not a (61) I don't know about the chevy's but 61's are common under the dodge's.

Talking older style kingpin axles. Not a newer unit bearing disconnect axle.

Yes, that is something to look out for with the dodges, but simply getting the build number before purchase will take care of that.

Other then the added cost to switch to 35 spline axles over the cost of switching the chevy to 35 spline I dont see any disadvantage, I willhave to look into the cost differences.

also, probably the biggest difference to a lot of people is the width. the dodge's are few inches narrower. i don't remember the exact width, but i think it is 2-3".

yep i dont want to deal w it eather. chevy is the way to go.if i did not need drivers drop, i would have a chevy 60 in my jeep. the shafts do not neck down on the chevy they do on the ford. does the dodge neck down?

The 61 was ude from 89- 91.5 on automatic diesels with no overdrive or inner cooler. It'll have a 61 on the top pass side of the pic, if I remember right. Also the gear tag will say 3.07.

not sure if ya got my return pm on misfits, but one of hte axels we were disscussing had drive flanges, the other had lockouts. I know the external style lockouts a failure prone.

If it were me I'd take the one that has the drive flanges on it, run it till ya can convert it over to internal style hubs. For what ya'd be getting the axel for you could convert it over and still be under 1000.
