Default Baker's k5

well i have a build thread on CK5 thought i should post it here as well

i found this 86 gmc jimmy on craigslist, was originally a 6.2/700r4 truck. then had a big block in it, it had a warn winch bumper and a warn 8274 winch, when i bought it it had a bone stock 350 4bbl and th400 out of a k20 in it, had mismatched 10 bolts in it and lift blocks on the front

Body looked solid with some rust in rockers, but rear floors and tailgate area was rock solid, supposedly it had been parked for 10 years or so, looks to have had been original grey with blue down middle of truck.

ended up loading it on trailer for $1500

i picked up:
D60 drw and 14BFF
AC Delco SRW hub assemblies
4 inch front springs
flowtech headers
GLO disc brake brackets
Mile Marker SS hubs
Diy4x shackle flip and switch with cross-tied shackles
zero rates
UD spring plates
Edelbrock preformer EPS
Edeljunk 600 carb
and proceeded to install....

heres some pics of the build

installed the dana 60 and shackle flip at work on my day off

for the rear i actually went thru 3 different 14 bolts to make one, had a cab and chassis 4:10 open i got with d60 didn't wanna mess with, picked up one from c30 that ended up being twisted bad and had 3:73 posi, then i got one from a 87 c30 burb that was suppose to be 4:10 but ended up being 3:73, so i used posi from one, gears from another, and the 87 housing.

ended up selling the 10 bolts, and a set of 3:73 gears, still got a set if someone needs them.

i also got skyjacker brake hoses, and got new calipers, pads, and rotors for front and rear, i had to take hitch off back to get shackle flip on might try to modify it and re install, i ended up putting the headers on and hooking them up to the duals that were on the truck from when it had a big block, but i will eventually bend up some 2.5 pipe and redo it.

I ended up swaping zero rates on back and moving axle backward 1.5". I then had a bad vibration and had to drop tcase 3/4". I started driving it daily for a little while and had an issue one day transmission lost forward gears, and then when i was goin to load on trailer is started working again ended up being the trans filter wasnt installed properly with the spacer and it allowed it to float up out of the pan and get no fluid.

It was about that time i got sick of my stock 350 and found a deal on a 355 with edelbrock rpm heads and intake, scat crank, forged rods and pistons, head studs, main studs, 6qt pan, windage tray, comp cam. it was in a boat and the guy got sick of having to adjust the rockers all the time. turns out after i tore it down to inspect everything that he had been tightening the roller rockers against the head studs.
when i was installing the new engine i also found out that the torque converter that was in my k5 was a low stall diesel converter. luckily i had a stock gasser converter laying around

Well went snow wheeling today,. My cousin and some friends went up in the bitely/brohman area, the jimmy was doin good, till the th400 gave up the ghost. it all of a sudden only had 1st gear in every gear. RND21 all were forward 1st gear. So I'll prolly be putting my other th400 and NP205 in. Still don't kno if I'll go big block tho. It was all pretty fresh snow, found a deep frozen over mud hole, and they tried to go around another one and got really close to a tree. Here's some pics of the fun I'll prolly post some more off my camera too. It was a pretty fun day. Good thing I trailered it up there lol

Cool k5! Cool wheeling pics too! Are you sure your trans is junk,I would check for a broken cable first. Another thing I've had happen is the spline that the shifter linkage goes into strips out, but to fix that you have to get into the trans to fix that. Good luck!

I'm thinking I broke something inside valve body wise, the linkage for it or something. I'm saving up for some parts for it, and debating my options

Picked up hydraulic clutch pedal assembly, hydro bell housing, and firewall cut for template, debating on picking up the sm465/208 combo and driveshafts too. Should be getting my 454 on a stand soon and tearing it apart to check it out only has 80k on it but sat of 7 years
