Default So today I went to the dealership...

I test drove a 2006 Duramax with the 6 speed Allison trans. 360HP and 600 and some LB/FT of torque.

I was impressed it was pretty peppy, and would easily put it sideways around a corner. Low end felt like it had some nice grunt.

The coolest feature was the new shifting. On the DIC you see PRNDM1. When you shift it into M it changes to all you see is 6 5 4 3 2 1 and on the shifter there is a + and - button to manually change gears. Kinda neat.

But anyway the truck stickered out at 45k with very few options.

The dealer wanted to give me 19k for my 2003.

3 years and it lost more than half of its value...holy ****. I thought trucks were supposed to hold their values. Oh well. It was fun but i'll stick with my piece of junk.

Bottom Line: New truck is kinda neat but Chevy's suck(beat ya to it Greasymonkey)

Have you driven the equivalent from ford, and dodge?

My powerstroke has alot of power, even though I had a major electrical issue, that is hopefully taken care of... It was FORD with 3100 miles on it..

(found on road dead)

Not yet. I'd like to drive one of each just to get a seat of the pants dyno for all of them.

I was impressed though. It sure has a lot more ass than my truck.

But I think I'm going to just keep mine and drive it till the wheels fall off.

In the mean time I think I might finally man up to the Big Hoss bundle :)

Mike I believe the Dmax's have 650 ft lbs. From what I hear give each of the big three a couple of years and all diesels will have twin turbos and 400+ hp.

I like all diesels, but I really don't like the Chevy truck. Engine is cool, but don't like the truck.

Why will ford come out with a sub-standard diesel that gets even ****tier diesel mileage? :)

Roady... I actually like the Chevy truck part more than the other trucks. Maybe its cause i've always had Chevy's so the dash and stuff is very natural for me. I don't really care for the Dodges cause I think the dashes look very plain and as Stan says, Minivanish.

I really like the Ford interiors...and exteriors. They have the only truck that is different than its half ton brother. But the mileage on those things blow hardcore.

You know I don't want to turn this into a Chevy vs Ford vs Dodge thread...

But I agree I luv the Ford truck the best, now if I could get a F350 crew cab with a Cummins 600, and a Allison tranny, I would be all set

Supposedly DCX is going to offer a 6.7L Cummins or something around that level. Rumor has it over 700ft-lb of torque. I will believe it when I see it. DCX is supposed to have the 4500 and 5500 available as well. Haven't been on the TDR site for a week or so though, so more information may have come out by now.

not sure that this matters much.. but most of the guys that do towing/hauling trailers/rvs for a living with 3/4 - 1tons are using dodge.. i would probably put the number at around 80%.. not sure the reasoning.. maybe its the power and the gas mileage.. most of the numbers i hear with a 33' 6k lb bumper pull are around between 7-9mpg.. dodge is somewhere between 9-11 w/ same speed..
