1978 cadillac coupe deville (425c.i.). 195,000 miles for $200.00 drove it for a year+ with a rod knocking that you could hear from a mile down the road.

It's out of the price range, but I bought a 65 Jeep, CJ5, Tuxedo Park model, with 18,000 actual miles, for $550.00.

The original owner picked it up from the factory in Toledo, drove it to Gaylord, kept it at his cabin and drove the kids to the ski resorts and trail roads until 77 or so when the clutch went bad. It sat in the barn until his son brought it down to Detroit to restore in 83 or so. He let it sit in his garage for a couple years until I bought it in 87.

He had the bill of sale, original build sheet and window sticker. The top was rotted, the rear springs were broken, it had minimal rust, but no body mounts left. He had replaced the clutch though.. :tonka:

I fixed it up and drove it around for a couple years. The three speed on the column was cool as hell. I wanted one to wheel and this one was way to clean to abuse (at least for me at the time). I sold it to a guy who flies his airplane to Gaylord and wanted a vehicle to leave at the plane hanger to drive to his cottage, to trail ride and drive the kids to the ski resorts.. :)

Back in the 70ties Grandman bought a bunch of them for under 500, fixed them up and re-sold them. The best one was a yellow mustang we had. think he paid 3 or 4 for it I drove it for 6 months and sold it for 1500.

And that Jimmy he is building we paid 500 for though my moms estate.

$40 for a new engine and trans, had a halfshaft, got a few thousand miles more, then gave it away for $400.

1974 Chevy Chevelle 4-door. I paid $80.00 for it needing a front brake caliper. Thing was great 400 v-8 small block, 400 turbo auto trans, 12-bolt 4:10 posi rear end, power windows, trailer package, A/C that worked. Hell I drove it for 2 years and gave it to my little brother which he drove for 2 years.

Funny how you can tell ruffly the age of us by what year beaters we had

89? Chevy Nova free but was a roll over had to buy a $75 dollar wind shield. And put a porta power in it to push the roof up till the glass fit .My wife drove it for 3yrs. We both still laugh ,that was probably the best car as far as reliability that we had for a long time.

And sold it for $70.00 (the guy chewed me down 5 bucks:tonka:)
