My current thinking about science vs. religion is that to a large extent religion comes from old science. I don't think that whoever wrote Genesis meant it to be considered "holy scripture" but rather a book of history and science as they knew it. They looked at the world around them, and based on what those who came before them believed wrote what they believed to be the truth. Only as it was passed down from generation to generation did it come to be considered "holy scripture". So I don't see a huge difference between the early biblical authors and modern scientists, both are looking at the world as it exists today and using what we know to try to figure out how it got this way and what will happen in the future.

As to the existance of a higher power... I don't know. I do know that something happened about 2000 years ago that still has lots of people talking.

Well, here's Hovinds theory in a nutshell on that.

1. dinosaurs are reptiles and reptiles never stop growing. This is a known fact observed thru scientific methods.

2. dinasours are believed to have had very small nostrils/breathing orifaces again through slightly less scientific data.

3. the big theory. Earth had a higher atmospheric pressure when first created thus increasing the oxygen capable of being breathed which contributed to extremely long lifespans of the time and thus as a result lizards of the time grew to be very very large.

Now, to go hand in hand with that theory Hovind goes on to explain the lfiespans of various generations of adam and eve's offspring. Adam himself living over 2000 years if I remember correctly and tapering down from there as this pressure subsided.

Paul, I hate to be the one who tells you this... ... but I will. It is absolutley impossible to folow God's word and remain unchanged. The two are mutually exclusive.

Dinosaurs are mentioned in the Bible.

Their bones are in the ground because they have all died, much like many creatures.

I guess I don't see what there is to prove.

Bruce, let me challenge you on this. If you find Genesis to be of questionable origins, how do you find the other scriptues to be of more reputable origins? To me it is all, or it is none. What do you think?

Right about the 2k years ago, but I think you have it a bit understated. It didn't just have people talking, it turned the world upside down.

Never said I followed 100%, but I think I'm living my life that I will get the answers in the end.

Following Christ is hot or cold, not luke warm. You are or you aren't. You live for him or you don't. He who is not for him, is against him.

Getting the answers in the end is too late Paul. When you face judgement, you can't go back and redo life, or change your mind on things. This life NOW is your chance, NOT later. Just FYI

it's this mentality that is what's wrong with our country. You're either with us or against us, there is no gray. Bullshit.

I am not discussing political strategies Mike, I am talking about a committment to Jesus Christ. On or off is how it works.

Sure it can, and I hope it does. By I hope it happens inside of a christian world view, not a muslim one, which wants infidels to be killed

But my message was to Paul, not to the president.

Are you scared for a reason? Do you fear that he might be right? I dont personally see anything scary in what he was saying.

When I was growing up my grandma would tell me that humans have no idea of what was a day for god. A day is a measurement of time that is centered around the sun. God existed before the sun, therefore his day might be different than ours.

no i'm scared that he and people like him will run the world...oh wait, they already are...GW Bush, pushing his evangelical agenda... life is like a horror movie.

if i thought that Christianity were a viable possibility, i'd go to church, but I don't. Not scared of the man made vengeful douchebag Christian God. There maybe something out there, but I don't think that it's something that we can know about.

Yeah, no crap!

I've PMed Dave regarding several issues, and he has always responded in a timely fashion. He seems like he always wants to go the extra mile to help someone out too. He also seems to generally care about people.

...and he does this in an attempt to reflect the life of Christ...

I'm also scared to think of what would happen if someone like him ruled the world!!!
