Default Who here donates yearly?

Im curious how many people donate to lets say the purple heart, veterans or voa yearly? I know my parents have always been big donators and get a generous amount taken off their taxes, it think its a great thing to get into and i know everyones got old stuff just sitting around, or ugly christmas sweaters they want to get rid of

so how many of you donate and to whom do you donate to?

Most of our excess goes to goodwill. They made out like bandits when we moved this summer to St. Louis, both the Adrian Goodwill as well as the St. Louis goodwill. Ever want to see how much extra crap you have, move houses.

My wife and I donate to: Toys for Tots, Humane Society and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We sometimes donate to Purple Heart when we collect enough old clothes to give.

now that our kids are entering school full time, my wife volunteers for a number of organizations, as well as ad-hoc needs.

for example, a couple of years ago she organized several fund raisers for a neighbor family. they both lost their jobs whilst caring for their then 2 year old son, who was fighting neuroblastoma.

we also give at church, and several other ad-hoc times during the year to purpleheart, salvation army and the like.

even my kids get involved. over the summer, the TCTimes did an article on my two sons - they donated quite a few toys to a mult-family garage sale, the proceeds of which went to parkinson's research.

I donate a lot.

Abo9ut 25% of my gross income, to the government. I don't get a tax write off for it.

Yesterday I donated a peice of pizza to a bum in detroit too, but I dont think I will claim it on my taxes.

yeah I'd be happy if all they took was 25%

and you'd think my wife wouldn't be taxed as heavily being a teacher
