My wife has owned her own grooming shop for 10 years and has seen everything. Just like for cars, there are cool and useless tools.
The original idea was for a HEAVY-duty grooming arm, with the angle brace CNC machined, fully TIG welded, and then powdercoated.
Her manager said since it wasn't by a recognized manufacturer, she couldn't use it. (I guess he doesn't trust my welding until I have a shingle hung up? )

Since then, I've decided that the grooming tables could use an overall design tweaking. Everyone at her salon complains about little things. Running a salon is hard enough without having to deal with little annoyances that could VERY easily be engineered away.

If it is truly better, it will sell. (assuming it is affordable, marketed properly, etc...) Don't let some pet store manager ruin your idea...

I would guage interest with a prototype demonstration to your audience first to justify a production run. start with doing market research, marketing to find demand. even a moderate cost expended on marketing can net you big results and save you from wasting a production run on something that is novel but nobody will buy. I know they changed the law regarding "small" or "home based" businesses. if you have a job already the "home business" needs to be equal or greater than 40 or 50% otherwise the irs considers it a hobby. if you only sell a few and make $500 bucks there is going to be little benefit for business write offs and such. you'll have to research the numbers but I know it is pretty high now.

I followed your train of thought just fine until you got to the tax stuff....
Guess that's why it's a good idea to pay a CPA to tell me wtf you just said.... lol
