movie looks well made, but the intention is disturbing to say the least.

i find it humerous that the maker cannot find himself to beleive in God, yet makes a story about a fantasy world with different dimentions, animal spirits, some magic compass, etc. get real!!

Sorry I didn't read everything, too much psycho babble for me... atheist are content being how they are, all the other religons are the ones that believe they have to convert the whole world to their way of thinking.

That is a very good observation.

I know several people that are religious and try to get the word out because they truly feel compassion for others. These people see religion and God as a good thing and just want to make sure you know about it. Dave Kerwin is one of these people; he'll answer your questions, get in lengthy debates, and try to show you his viewpoint without any "Conversion" B.S.

For some people, God has brought great joy, and they would like people to know about it so they too could find joy.

No problem in that. :)

i have to wonder if he truly is writing his story as a means of converting people to his atheistic view or if he's just trying to tell a fantasy story.

I never suggested that he was trying to covert anything. But he is attempting to hijack a well known story, and he wants it to be a part of his atheistic viewpoint. The humor is that while he rejects something he thinks is a fairytale, he believes in known fairytale stuff.

I don't know if he's trying to hijack the story in the bible per say. There are themes that are constantly used in fantasy stories. Star Wars for instance drew on similar themes and cues with regards to underdog boy, young love, myths and legends, "religion", etc... Having not read the guys books or seen the movie I will wait to reserve judgment.

the guy has serious issues. I still doubt though that either narnia or his are written with the express intent of converting anyone to either belief.

I am not suggesting he is out to convert anyone, but I am suggesting that the situation is humerous. I also want to note that the author wishes he was born a woman and that his name was Margot.

I must have missed the margot bit, but yes...the situation is humorous to say the least.

Well I picked up the books and am on the third (final) book now. I am a little shocked that it will be released as a kids movie. The books have mixed reviews by Christians, as some say it is an outright attack on God while others say that it opposes some of the roman practices of the Church rather than God.

The problem I have (being only into the third book) is where the story leaves the movie-goer between each book. I think it is fine if a reader can move directly onto the next book and see how it transitions, but it really has some interesting gaps between books that will leave young children questioning their faith for maybe a year between movies.

Book 1: Characters are introduced. You start to take sides with an innocent little girl and her father when the Church starts to kill children. Book ends when father turns out to be a child killer also.

Book 2: Witches are good because they are not restrained by all the negativity impossed by God. Children join campaign to finish the job Satan failed by waging war on God. Children have the tools to do the job right and they're going to be the new "Adam and Eve" once God is gone. Every character you've come to support in the series is now waging war on God.

Book 3: Friendly gay fallen angels from days when Satan "failed" at taking down God befriend children........

See my problem. I will have book 3 read by next week, but what if your 10 year old had to wait a year to find out the ending.

looks pretty cool to me. from what i've heard they don't actually kill a god, but a
"bad angel posing as a god"
You are incorrect. From Book 3: The Amber Spyglass. "The Authority" is the one they are waging war on FYI. Page 31:

"
"Tell me, then", said Will. "Tell me about Metatron, and what this secret is. Why did that angel call him Regent? And what is teh Authority? Is he God?"

He sat down, and the two angels, their forms clearer in the moonlight than he had ever seen them before, sat with him.

Balthamos said quietly, "The Authority, God, the Creator, the Lord, Yahweh, El, Adonai, the King, the Father, the Almighty - those were all names he gave himself. He was never the creator. He was an angel like ourselves - the first angel, true, the most powerful, but he was formed of Dust as we are, and Dust is only a name for what happens when matter begins to understand itself."
"

So you see, it is quite clear that in this series the characters you are drawn to be most compassionate about (Will being one of them) are waging war on God, by all definitions.

I read the first and second of those ten years ago in jr high. I might still have them around here somewhere. I don't remember them being all that anti-religious. Hmmm. But it sounds like third really is.

From the end of the second book. Will's father is telling him what must be done. page 319-320:

"
"Listen", said the man , sitting up with a struggle. "Don't interrupt. If you're the bearer of the knife, you have a task that's greater than you can imagine. A Child...How could they let it happen? Well, so it must be....There is a war coming, boy. The greatest war there ever was. Something like it happened before, and this time the right side must win. We've had nothing but lies and propaganda and cruelty and deceit for all the thousands of years of human history. It's time we started again, but properly this time...."

He stopped to take in several rattling breaths.

"The knife", he went on after a minute. "They never knew what they were making, those old philosophers. They invented a device that could split open the very smallest particles of matter, and they used it to steal candy. They had no idea that they'd made the one weapon in all the universe that could defeat the tyrant. The Authority. God. The rebel angels fell because they didn't have anything like the knife; but now...."
