Default Are all you atheist bying your kids the Golden Compass for CHRISTmas??

You atheist should take your kids to see the Golden Compass staring Nichole Kidman and then buy them the books for CHRISTmas. It will be a great foundation for them to begin their path to hell.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp

Saw the previews this weekend and thought it did look cool . . . didn't know they would be killing GOD in the end and I'm really ashamed that "James Bond" and Sam Elliot are in it as well

A kids movie? I haven't heard of it and I can't look it up here at the school right now....network is really slow right now. Backups maybe?

Anyway, that's like Jarhead...make a movie that looks like a normal guy film and find out it's an anti-war film after you pay to go see it.

thanks for the heads up...gotta notify the wife not to take the kid to see that.

some people dig too far into the depth of a movie. I watched Narnia for the movie itself and it wasn't bad and I'll watch this one just the same. Trying to draw conclusions to your real life beliefs though is a stretch.

Oh, I have to add this thought from Evan Almighty. God says to Evan's wife in that movie some things about what people wish for from God. And his basic answer is you can't give people the exact thing they wish for to truly fulfill that wish. All you can do is give them the opportunity to do something to achieve that wish.

Welcome to America. If Mel "I hate Jews" Gibson can release a movie based upon Christianity and it's beliefs (Passion of the Christ), why can't someone who doesn't believe in religion release a movie based upon their non-beliefs? Granted, 'Passion' was never billed as anything other than a movie about Jesus and made no attempts to mislead people into seeing it.

You have to take the good with the bad. If you don't like the idea of the movie, don't see it. No one will put a gun to your head and make you watch it. Plus, if you don't like the idea and you don't see the movie, they don't get your money. It's like two protests in one!

Personally, I don't like the idea that someone would diguise a movie as a fairy tale, when it has Atheistic undertones. However, if it's left to a viewer's interpretation to determine that it's an "anti-God" movie, but it's billed as a children's movie, what are the chances that a kid will actually understand half of the true meanings behind the movie?

Regardless of whether or not he's a Lib, he's a good person and human being and I'm sure he'll be a great teacher.

Now back on topic: I would buy my children Religious books and David and Goliath toys and what not if I had kids. I'm suprised that more of the atheist on this site haven't posted saying how happy they are that they have something to give to their kids.

It's all about beliefs. I'm sure the Communist parents of the YOUNG Pioneers thought they were doing the right thing as well.

The only problem is in my belief system this movie promotes eternal damnation in a very hot place.

I get blindsided by the news everyday. I expect something good to come from the news, but everytime I see someone getting killed or someone stealing. So in all honesty whenever I turn the news on I have a beer and some munchies ready. Best true to life entertainment on the tube. What is most annoying is those dayum holiday commercials. Sure am glad I am not religious.

If people would keep their religious ideas to themself, the world would get along better. This thread is a classic example! Whatever one beleives will help them live a better life, without doing harm to others, then more power to them.

Reporting good things doesnt get the ratings, why do you think the war in Irag has been getting no coverage lately?

I cannot believe you guys think that a movie can change a persons religious beliefs. Even kids.

Robert Redford has been quoted recently saying he has given up trying to change public opinion with a movie. His reason, people go to the movies to be entertained, not preached to or persuaded.

given you recent child raising issues perhaps you should pay more attention to what is influancing your child. Especially with kids, you can never be sure what they will latch on to as "truth".
