Angry Stupid Tire Rules~!

Went to Discount to get the tires rotated & resiped on the dually today.
Of course I had to pay for the resiping (sp?) which I was ok with, but why don't they just ask you how deep you want them done in the first place?

But that's not the kicker, this may not be news to others, but it was to me.
They wouldn't touch the tire I brought in off the wife's cherokee because it was manufactured in the 35th week of 1997. This makes it ten years old & they won't fix any tire that's ten years old. It's a perfectly good BFG Mud Terrain, just has a screw in the middle of the tread.

Yes, I could plug it or patch it myself, but I prefer it to be patched & don't feel like breaking the tire down.

end rant!

Man, it's nice to have a best buddy with 5 wreckers and a state of the art shop. I never have to deal with regs like that... no questions asked, but dumb looks always given.

To be fair, it's probably there to protect DT from being sued after some guy's dry-rotted tire detonates and he goes for the final swerve.

Yupper, they told me the same thing, too old of tires. Apparently they lost a lawsuit and so changed their policy. They also said that they will probably not be allowed to patch or repair any tire next year, no matter how new it happens to be.

honestly if you have 10 year old tires, they are to freakin old, I am suprised the cutoff is that high. My mts are about 5yrs with tons of tread, yet they still worry me. They have to protect their ass thanks to all the dumbfucks out there they like to blame everyone but themselves and get sue happy

guys, perhaps you're not familiar with a MASSIVE tire recall involving Firestones and tire age etc... Or the NHTSA ruling that came out of it regarding manufacturers to start mandating tire ages and the servicing of tires under a certain age. 10 years for a normal daily drive tire is a lifetime. More than double most tread life expectancies actually if used daily 10k per year. So, its not just Discount doing this. It's basic policy across the tire world now.

belle tire will do anything to make a buck, most crooked place out there.

I had to go there to get my last set of tires mounted because one of my rims had a chunk missing out of it and discount wouldn't touch it. belle didn't even think twice and gladly took my $14 per tire to mount them

their was a fatal accident with a worker and it is against company policy... we need to keepour guys safe in the back room. if that means not doing a free flat repair then we turn it away.... also we dont work on 19.5 or 22.5 tires anymore..

have you guys had a tire explode when you are working on it???

most likely no but it is not fun and we like to protect our workers. do you have safty regulations at work??

not trying to come across the wrong way just telling you guys the facts

reccomend to replace tires after 6 years, thetires made of oil and wax and after so may years they dry out fromt the outside (ozone cracking) and from the inside (inner liner peal and cuts) this exposes the steel belts and rusts them out making the tire more acceptable to seperations.
when steel belts rust out tires deform at diferent speeds causing pulling and other unsafe things.

I agree times infinity!!!

Dont get me started when it comes to them honoring a warranty on tires that are less than a month old that the mounted backwards (directional Z-Rated tires). Kelly tires told them they screwed up.
The Corporate office had me get my front end and tires inspected at 3 different shops and EVERY one of them came up with a different answer and NONE of them were the Scalloped tires.

I can understand that rule.

Here is another FYI about Discount you may or may not know.....

Do not go there with wheel spacers. They will not agree work on your wheels and tires if you do.
