Nobody wants to see or admit it, but this is a socialistic country. It may not be "communism" but in all regaurds to taxes and wages and healthcare and economy, this country is becoming more and more socialistic, almost communistic. Keep voting for big government (ie DEMOCRATIC) and we will all be working only to support hose that will not support themselves.

Partisan has nothing to do with it.. BOTH sides are out for themselves and to not get caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

If the Goverment had its way everyone would carry Credit Card etc to pay for things. Cash would no longer be printed. Why because they would know every penny that goes in and out of society and get there cut. This is where this county is turing to and in the long run its not going to be pretty.

Ok, let me re-word this.

Why should I have to be punished because your company sucked?

I thought the union was there for you, not my money.

and yes, the unemployment money is from everybody who works.

Way to go! We will now have less purchasing power after businesses raise prices to offset their extra expenses.

Expenses go up, therefore prices go up! Sounds pretty simple to me...

A little math here... Lets say restaurant A has 5 minimum wage employees working at all times. They are open for 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.
5 employees X an extra $2 an hour for 16 hours = $160 a day in extra cost = $1120 per week = $4480 per month!!
Now, who the hell is gonna cover that cost? US!!

BTW, do any jobs actually pay minimum wage? Even in High school I had crappy jobs that paid at least a buck or 2 above minimum wage.

I could also see this causing problems for other workers who already make more than minimum wage.

Back in high school when I was manager of a pizza place, I earned $8 an hour. minumim wage was $5 something and most people got paid $6.

So there was a $2 difference between entry level and manager. With this increase to There would be a .85 cent difference between entry and management. Obviously management would not be happy and would demand more money.

its not $4480 we pay. It only costs $1.50 to make a large deep dish pizza with everytopping, they sell for something like $12-$16. If a resturant takes on an extra $4480 per month they mark that up a few times. The paying customers are getting shafted for closer to 15 grand a month, hack maybe more.

Its a false raise, already stated the government wins, inflation increases, and the people at the bottoms dream of some magic that helps them leap frog a few years up the economic ladder is just what dumb people want to hear. You dont need skills, or even experience, its the man thats holding you down, ohh wait, some great legislature is gonna make all your problems go away. Still with out skillz or any more expierence you are now magically worth more. If you belive that you will be making minimum wage for the foreseable future. Good luck!

Well there goes the economy. I can't believe it finally made it through. It just shows how ignorant the people are that have the power.

"By 2005, a minimum wage paycheck bought less than it had in 49 of the last 50 years." It added, however, that "multiple studies of Baltimore, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco have shown that firms enjoy lower turnover among employees as a result of the living wage ordinance."
Heh heh, I wonder if the cost of living in those areas are affected by the "living wage ordinance"?
