Huh? What?

How do you sue a police force when you are one yourself? What are you suing for? Who gets the pie in the face?

Sounds like they are suing for the records . The office will have dispatch records as to where and what there officers were doing in that time frame and are refusing to supply said records to the state .

my take is the suit is actually seeking information related to the dispatching and patrol activities for that time slot.

MSP has never been a huge fan of OCSD, or the County in general ever since CLEMIS.org sought to replace the State's floundering LEIN system, and subsequently became the nation's largest consortium of law enforcement information sharing (in terms of quantities of sharing agencies)

if OCSD is on firm ground with this, then it should be a simple data dump - I'm not sure where they are with the rollout of AVL (automatic vehicle locators) as I've been out of that shop for almost a year - but the idea was to log spatial information on all of the mobile OCSD assets...

similarly, when I am in the field, my nextel cell phone sends a signal via the GPRS network so that supervision can (if they choose) monitor my location(s)

Damn! I am impressed! I guess I didn't expect to see a post with that kind of knowledge.

MSP has lots of problems right now. Granholm devastates the department with her ridiculous management, yet she makes damn sure she has lots of troopers around her wherever she goes (her hubby too). Then, she hosts the governor's conference and it takes lots of troopers to provide security. Just shows you where her priorities really are. AND, I can tell you they weren't with the people who were shot in Royal Oak Township. Unfortunately, these types of "politics" go on much too often and people get hurt because of it. I could go on for hours...

I told you (in another thread) that I had worked pretty extensively with a regional GIS/Information Network, as well as with a number of police officers and had an 'idea' of what being a cop entailed :)

before my tenure over there ended, the only thing left that I really wanted to get involved with, was the Sheriff's Chopper - we actually designed the Navi System and used local GIS data, instead of paying a vendor literally tens of thousands of dollars to update their proprietary system on a semi-regular basis.

heh, during the initial system's design of the symbology for the crime mapping portion of the reporting module, the subject matter experts didn't have any idea of how they wanted it mapped - I used a subtle pink "xxx" as a symbol for reporting the sexual related offenses (which is actually pretty standard symbology in the ESRI toolkit) but the lead project manager thought it might be too risque :tonka:
