Default D30 max tire size...

Best I can tell from a quick loop round google is that my stock LJ has a D30 in the front.. Correct me if I am wrong.. if I'm right, how big a tire can I run on it (unlocked) and get by without worrying too much about it puking out it's guts on the trail..

Thanks!

35's if you have some moderation while wheeling.

33's if you do not.

Uses include door stop, paper weight, modern art... makes an excellent Christmas present... I also think broken Dana 30's are the recommended 10 year anniversary gift..

That's funny! Thanks for seeing the humor in that!

Trent McGee wheeled his rig in the Ultimate Adventure w/ 37",a D30 and chromo shafts. I ran mine with 37" for awile on stock shafts ... although I replaced one everytime I went out. I'm still waiting for a follow up article on d30 that JP did an build w/ 38".

IMO I wouldn't go any bigger than a 35" for all around use. DD or whatever.

I've heard a few people say that you're better off saving the $$ on upgrading a D30 and just putting the cash toward a better axle... arn't those chromo shafts pricey?

Oh.. and it's soo much easier to be funny when you can invest a half an hour into a whitty comment online.. Had we had this conversation in person I would have totally butchered my little joke.. :tonka:

I'm on 36's and pounded the piss out of the d30 at the pig gig with it unlocked...

When i got it home i found 2 pinion teeth missing... only had 600 miles on the new superior 4.56 set... Shafts held though.

If i can get the gears warrantied i'll keep running it till shafts break all the time... probally no upgrades, just save for something else

I run an aussie locker in my hp d30 w/ 4.10's, auto, 4.0, 35/12.5/15 m/t's. I beat my junk hard(:tonka:). I don't break shafts, but I do carry spares cuz I know it WILL happen. If you don't mind the possibility of changing a shaft or 2, 35's are fine. But also, I wheel with a guy that breaks 44 shaft's all the time with 37's???? He's kinda retarded though.

edit: spare d30 shafts are cheap.

I have gotten away with 35x14.50 Bogger and Q78 Swampers, without breaking it, but the D30 does tend to bend when you barrowroll your Jeep a few times...

What Mongo said: Spare D30 shafts are cheap. You can even be a total pimp and keep your spares attatched to unit bearings, which makes it tons easier to replace in the mud on the side of the trail.
