I had a '96 cargo van with 260K on it, bought it for $1200 in early '05 fixed it up, used it and sold in '06 for $800 because I needed the money.

Didn't Kelly's 5.3 blow up or something?

5.3 spins too about 6000rpm

Thanks, I would bet those differences woud be hard to "feel" and would bet the 5.3's inability to tow compared to the 5.7 would be nil at best.

I thoght he recently replaced the shortblock in his YJ, which I thought was a 5.3. Maybe I read something wrong.

If I recall correctly it was a 5.7 liter of some TPI or LT1 vareity.

I am almost 100% sure it was not a 5.3

Casey took a 5.7 out of his buggy and put a 5.3 into it....and it ripped like no other with the new motor.

I seriously considered your truck. Need something to tow my jeep and let the wife daily drive a couple miles to work. Just cannot get past the miles though...

#1 KBB and NADA are dreamland unless you're a dealership and can offer your own financing. Look your price up on Edmunds if you want to know what its worth around here.
I dunno why people think the 5.3 is such a great engine. Theres nothing especially wrong with it, besides the piston slap - it has good power for its size/economy... But its not a 'gotta have' engine.
170k miles is a lot if your asking somebody to finance to purchase, and aside from the problems financing a 9 year old vehicle - 170k might not be a lot to have on an engine, but its a lot of miles to have on a chassis I don care who you are.

Besides all this half ton pickups just don't bring top dollar anymore

**forgot to mention, you said rust. Surface rust or not, the word rust takes out 90% of the people looking for a vehicle like yours.

I think it's the miles. People don't mind the 100k mark, once there at the mileage of yours they want it for next to nothing for taking the risk.(I'm the same way). I'll take it for $4000.00. Now you have a starting offer...just go up from there.

The miles scare people away, around here people think a vehicle is junk once the odometer hits six digits. I myself always judge vehicles by condition.

The only exception to the six digit rule is in Mt. Pleasent the week the casino checks get cashed. Shiny paint and big wheels are the deciding factor!
