Frankly the 5.3 engine is not helping the sale either . 5.7 is more diserable for the power and they get no less fuel milage .

Id say mileage and economy are the 2 biggest reasons with the 5.3 being 3rd reason .

Mileage is about the only objective way for most people to compare used cars. For most it's hard to tell if an engine is healthy or if a transmission has been abused, but they can certainly read some numbers on the dash. Personally I look for used vehicles with high miles because I know they will be significantly cheaper.

That said, I wouldn't drop your price any further. There's a butt out there for every drivers seat, you just haven't found them yet. I would work on advertising in more places. Have you tried the Auto/RV books? You said AutoTrader but didn't know if you meant the books or the Website.

just my .02

I am partial to the 350 myself, and i know what one i would rather have in a truck/car. but the 5.3 is a good motor from what i have seen, and you cant buy a vehicle new with a 5.7 anymore can you??

Weren't you the one bitching your truck only got like 15 mpg on a good day with no load?

I get 14 mpg towing at 80.

The 5.3 blows away the 5.7 for power, towing, etc. You should really drive one of each, the difference will dumbfound you.

Snowman it is advertised on autorader online and in the mag.

I think its a good price with that many miles but I allready have a truck very similar to yours. Used cars/trucks with high miles are worth more down south. Rednecks in Alabama would pay $6000 for it even if it had 200k miles. Try Ebay.

My Ranger has 177 on it, I've always felt I was just breaking it in

I've always thought 200-300K was getting into the higher mileage. and if it has that many miles on it, you can tell if it's been maintained. lower mileage cars you can't, it may have only 40K in the ticker but if the oil was never once changed, etc.. and it'd probably still look pretty good if you just ran it through the washer a couple times.

post up some pics of the undercarage or interior or better yet the engine bay. if it's all clean yo might spark someone's interest.

With all that being said, we had a suuuper clean '89 cavalier with 33,000 on it (no, not rolled over, it was in the family since new) we ended up selling it to some local kid for $100 because of all the problems it had from sitting.

thats a sweet truck, I'm really surprised more haven't came to at least look at it.

I had people lowballing an $800 running Neon (I mean people were showing up and seriously offering $300? for an ugly but solid running car with no leaks/shakes/rattles/smoke that had new tires, intact glass, and a non-shredded interior).
Probably the best response of the bunch. Mileage is like 'curb appeal'. It's the first thing that people ask.

The low % finance rates have killed the used car market for private sellers. In addition to the banks/credit unions being unwilling to lend money or if they do it's at mafia rates.

A good runing used car, with no body damage, no broken glass, with everything working should bring a minimum of $1000. There are very few good $500 vehicles out there without something semi-major wrong with them: Brakes, electrics, A/C, etc.

On a happy note, I did manage to sell my wifes 1999 Corvette C5 coupe. It had under 30K miles on it, spotless maintenance records, new tires, and a custom cover. Listed it on Craigs for slightly under KBB value, sold it within a week. Very happy about it.

I love my gen III but the numbers do favor the 5.7L for towing;

1998 5.7L = 255HP @ 4600 rpm & 330LB-FT @ 2800 rpm
1999 5.3L = 270HP @ 5000 rpm & 315LB-FT @ 4000 rpm

I'd be curious what the 5.3's numbers are at the same RPM as the 5.7's Max's........

5.3L @ 4600rpm = 265 HP approximately
5.3L @ 2800rpm = 310 LB-FT approximately+

5.7 spins too about 5250rpm
5.3 spins too about 6000rpm

I'm guessing you don't want my opinion because you keep telling me to "Go Away"

anyway, what I've got to say is known by most anyway.

the current economy is in the toilet, unless you need the money or the upgrade. the best thing is to wait or trade-up.

I had a '96 cargo van with 260K on it, bought it for $1200 in early '05 fixed it up, used it and sold in '06 for $800 because I needed the money.
