I sold a 99 Vortec 350 Suburban with 109k and 3 kids worth of wear on it and an incorrect mirror for $5000 with a day of listing on Craigslist.

It had white man wheels on it.

Definitely miles. Spending my summer in a leased office inside of a dealership used car lot you'd be surprised how people feel about the mileage thing.

Generally it seemed most people were very leery of anything over 100,000 miles.

Consensus is the miles then? I honestly can't figure that my price is too far out of line for a fully loaded truck in decent shape. Furthermore I am 2 grand below KBB and NADA with the 170,000 miles on it and stating fair to good condition. I understand its an older used truck, but I don't plan on giving it away.

Yes it has the piston slap on start up, even with 170,000 miles it apparantly has never been a problem. once it warms up you don't hear it again until the next morning.

It comes with a set of white man wheels.

Must be the michigan economy thing, ebay is next.

Have you considered listing it out of state and offering transport?

The only thing about listing the truck out of state somewhere is that people instantly think it's a scam.

The words "transport", "out of state", "escrow", etc. seem to be immediate red flags when selling on the internet because of the damn Niggerians.

I can vouch for Chad, I've ridden in it, it's a nice truck especially for the price.

I don't understand that statement?

Are you saying they are not a good motor because you heard 2 of them knock?

Are you saying they ARE a good motor because you see a lot of them and only two knocked?

Mine makes a "knocking sound" on start up, it is an early 5.3 with the piston slap "problem" which clearly has not caused a durability issue.

Thanks Mr. Rogers, now go switch cardigans and slip into your house shoes.

Wasn't that also the first year for the 5.3? Could be contributing to people being wary of it.

I've bought and sold a lot of cars lately.

The mileage is a big deal - 100K is a "magic number" for a lot of people, although I don't think it's as big a deal as it was 20 years ago. That said, I have 6 vehicles, two of which have over 100K, two of which are in the 90s, one in the 70s (in more ways than one - 78 Vette), and one in the 50s (non-DD 98 TJ).

The market is also tough - a lot of the auidience for a good used truck are the ones feeling the pinch. New trucks with 100K warranties and 0% financing are everywhere. A $300 lease payment for a new Dodge Ram is tough competition for a $250 payment on a used truck. I just paid $2800 for a 98 Grand Marquis in perfect, documented with bound receipts dealer-maintained, $800 Michelin tired condition, whcih was about $1000 (or about 30%) under KBB retail. I had people lowballing an $800 running Neon (I mean people were showing up and seriously offering $300? for an ugly but solid running car with no leaks/shakes/rattles/smoke that had new tires, intact glass, and a non-shredded interior).

Sorry I brought it up... I didn't mean to cause a ruckus.

FYI if you didn't know there is a different oil filter that is supposed to help minimize the noise so it doesn't scare people off. With all of the trucks in our fleet that has not affected the longevity of any of them. I only brought it up (the noise) in case the people that looked at it heard it they didn't think it was about to blow.

Sorry Chad, I tried to sell it to a good friend of mine that was looking for a plow truck, he went with a '99 2500 series xcab that had 79k on it - paid ~10k for it too.

Consider it this way. When you buy a truck you're already going to be spending a shit ton of $$$ for gas. Now you're buying a truck with very high miles for $6500 which increases the chances of a lot of parts needing to be replaced which aren't cheap considering it's a truck.
