Default 1978 Cherokee Chief

Picked up this guy off the WA craiglist!! Had her shipped and well haven't done much.

Specs:
401
Th400
Quad with part-time kit
D44 front and rear
2" body lift (life save on trans work)
35s

I'm about finishing up with the trans and it'll be the winter car. When I get another car to be the winter car (saving the MR2 from the snow) I'm going to make it into a fun trail rig.

It came with a Deere

Driving it off the trailer

and off into the sunset!! Well, that lasted about a month and then the trans went! . . . . ehh, o well

Future plans:
SOA
D60 and 14 bolt
4:88s
ARBs
39: iroks
don't know what transfer case yet, possibly atlas

Some "real" bumpers and HUGE winch

I was thinking about letting you guys do the bumpers and then of course ordering the steering from you cause it's well "bad ass" but no penii on it.

So the trans was rebuilt last year, it has paperwork for it. I drop it and the housing was cracked on the side above the pan, where it flares out at the bottom if you TH400s you'll understand. Well, instead of scraping it they put a shit tone of RTV on it . . . I wonder if that hand anything to do with the trans failing

At first I thought the paint was goofy, but I kinda dig it. Sort of an 80s retro style. I always loved old chiefs.

I still think the paint is goofy but it's growing on me. It's too nice to change, maybe that's the real reason it's going on me I think that once I get some real bumpers on her and either paint the rocker tube or toss it it'll be bettter. . . . kinda Ateamish right now.

found a picture of it.

why run shorter shocks like that when you do not have much uptravel to take advantage of? running longer shocks would allow you to get more down travel so you can get all flexy on the hardcore trails you wheel

The rear shock setup in a TJ sucks. To run longer travel shocks in the rear you have to run longer bump stops, or relocate the shocks. The shock length that comes with most ~4" lifts has the longest body you can really fit and get any type of compression.

This doesn't apply to the unlimited, but on a regular TJ with with a 4" lift the drive shaft will bind at not even close to full droop, so most lift companies supply short shocks to limit droop.

Yuppers, so I think I might buy longer ones when these die.

So, any interesting ideas for bumpers for the chief??

Dear Thread-trashing Assclowns,

If you want to ignore Chiefwoohaw, IGNORE him. Don't trash his thread with useless posts. Set an example here, show some self-restraint, and have some respect.

Woohaw...If I were you, I'd request for a mod to clean up most of the useless posts in this thread so people can just enjoy checking out the info on your Chief (just my $.02).

Great looking Chief, and despite what others say about that setup you want, it should wheel nicely. IIRC Sandals had a nice FSJ SOA on 35's +. It actually looks like it would be a nice wheeler as is though. Sucks your going to expose it to Michigan winters lol.

The way that thing looks coming off the trailer is exactly the reason I want one for my next rig.

It will never see MI winters . . . maybe a little salt down here in southern OH but no MI winters . . . EVER!!

We were supposed to beat the guy there but he made good time and was in the parking lot when we arrived. IT was BAD ASS to roll up on it when it was on the trailer . . . like a shiny prize or something :tonka:

Me too . . . They will be replaced with some nice sturdy steal bumper with a HUGE winch in the middle
