My Mom and Sister collect 'Snowbabies'. Between the 2 of them they have around 150 with only 1 duplicate between them.

Which I bet is nowhere near what the "book" value is.

No way in hell I would let all that crap in my house.
You are soooooo correct. People buy all this stuff and believe that they will be more valuable someday. Auctioneers talk about this all the time. They go to evaluate an estate (living or dead) and find collections like this. They get the joy of telling the 87 year old lady that the collection of 200 Franklin Mint collector plates that she paid $99.99 apiece for in 6 easy monthly payments is worth at most $1-5 apiece to anyone else in the world. Some of the Precious Moments stuff still commands a decent price, but only the older stuff.

I hope she only does this for enjoyment and not for any type of investment...

I started collecting die cast John Deere tractors when I was a kid. I have a lot of John Deere shit, too... But nothing that extreme.

I collect franklin mint diecast 1/12 scale jets. They're pricey. I don't care what they're worth though. They're cool as shit to me.

I collect elephant figurines. nothing expensive or worth anything other than to me. sort of a superstion really. my grandmother had these three elephant figurines in her house and used to tell me that always point the elephants facing the window for good luck and good fortune. one of those passed on things I guess. I like WWII militaria too.

I guess I would have to say I collect junk, anything I've paid money for and don't use.
since my accident, gone through the house & garage 5-6 times and started collecting things I don't use. planning on donating some things to the Salvation Army the rest is going in the garbage.

hell, I still have W-2's and tax forums from '89 when I got out of the Navy

I have a friend thats a large realestate developer, anyone that lives on the eastside of the state would know the properties that he ownes.
I did some work in his house this summer and before we entered one of the rooms he said, "you better just keep your damn mouth shut"

It was filled with old John Deere stuff.
He said most of the die cast items were the first off the line.

This is a very rich guy, never grew up on a farm. But he sure loved that stuff.
As soon as I told him how cool I thought everything was, he started telling me the story behind each item. I think we were in there for a couple hours.

Yeah... most people who collect John Deere stuff are fucking awesome.

I did have the advantage of growing up on and around plenty of John Deere tractors. I hope that one day I'll be able to restore an old classic Deere and drive it in ALL the parades. That would be so cool.

My dad collect hats, being a big farmer he would get a lot of free hats and then put them on shelves that go all around our shop office, maybe a few hundred in all.

I think a couple people on here can atest to my coffee can filing system in the barn. its about 300 maxwell house cans lining the walls full of crap. you'd think you could find stuff because they are all labeled but its like a witch hunt when your looking for stuff.
