Check by the gas tank for rust. Take magnet to the back of the rear wheels. Look for rust along the drivers seat and base of pillar, and check the tailgate for operation and see if the gauges work.

They are known and prone to rust and corosion in those areas. They are also common to electrical probs in the instrument panel.

if you get it i would disconnect the amp meter. They short out and burn the board.

I personally love FSJ's.

http://www.teamgrandwagoneer.com

They've got a lot of good parts.

My brother came into an '86 grand wagoneer, 360 V8, body's in pretty good condition, rust is minimal really. It rund and handles nicely, lot of work to be done to it, but until we get a 3rd Jeep between the two of us (after mine's paid off), it's his DD... I personally like them, though I've been dealing with an electrical nightmare with what ended up to be the rear drivers side turn signal, blowing out hazards, the turn signal system, and the brakelights. It wasn't exactly kept to factory spec wiring over the years, I doubt any were. I think you'll enjoy it though, they are such fun vehicles...

As far as headlights go for the conversion, you can use CJ5 and maybe 7 headlight assemblies as they are the same, this leaves you with just the grille and vent covers to get or you can get those led blinkers to fill the vent holes with, and this just leaves a grille. there is a guy on www.ifsja.org that makes reproduction grilles.

The gas tank is common to rust even out side of the belt. As bill said go to ifsja.org.

You can get parts all over but Bjsoffroad.com is a good spot.
The guy that built the riverbeast is involved with this place http://www.ttsfabworks.com/

Good luck
