How To Save $ In State Budget
Using the obviously dated, but close enough for my purposes, Michigan Executive Budget for Fiscal Year 2008 at http://www.michigan.gov/documents/bu...2_186327_7.pdf
I can cut several hundred million dollars out of the state budget.
-$9.0M local fairs are on their own - no state $
-$3.3M "At risk student success program" for community colleges. You're in college now - sink or swim.
-$411M for daycare
-$12M refugee assistance
-$24M adult education
-$6M "virtual high school"
$465.3M savings right out of the gate.
The huge IT $ in the state budget are striking:
$33M for Community Health
$768K Attorney General
$785K Civil Rights
$3.9M Civil Service
$28.824M Office Mgmt & Budget
$24.416M Dept of State
$154M Health & Human Service
This is over $280 million in IT on top of a $410M budget for the Dept of Info Technology.
I am certain that through standardization, etc... I could take $100M out of the $280M the individual departments are spending on IT as well as trim the central IT budget by $41M at least.
There's a savings of $506.3M in about 30 minutes...
This is the Pub. Leave common sense at the door.
