What are you having the MRI on? I have mine on my head. They put my whole body in a tube. Put my head in a padded holding fixture. I wasn't allowed to move for 45 minutes. Took me out after about 40 to inject something in my blood then put me back in. VERY loud buzzing.

My chest. Casey said she might be able to get me a pill to put me out. Plus it is a midnight Thursaday, so I should be able to fall asleep.

Yah, you'll most likely be enclosed all the way in the tube. If you're claustrophobic, you can tell them and they'll give you valium. Take off anything metal before you go in.

I tried to fall asleep during mine, but I was getting it done on my head 'cause of my migraine, and the loud buzzing made my head hurt worse. On top of that, I had it done in a mobile MRI unit, so it was basically in a semi-trailer outside in the middle of winter with no heat. I was FREEZING.

My youngest gets them every year, but they give him a sedative.

I guess it's not too bad. Boring and cold - like the other posts said

They're not too bad, unless your really claustraphobic

I've had my knee, ankle, other ankle, hand, head, chest and back done. I usually pop a valium not to put me at ease...... but to help cobat the boredom :)

Had one earlier this year. Henry Ford, main campus.

LOUD. Buzzing, clanking, beeping. Lots of noises.

Late at night on a Sunday.

Then they take you out to inject the Contrast media. (LIkely containing the heavy metal, gadolinium) When they injected this stuff in my arm they blew the needle right threw the vein. I AM TALKING SERIOUS PAIN. Although there were 2 cute techs massaging my arm to relieve the pain. Actually, I refused to go back in until the pain subsided. Took about 10 minutes. They were very apologetic.

Other than that, it was not bad.

I've had one on each knee. If you don't have a problem with small spaces you'll be alright. Just relax and take a nap.

I've had a few. They suck because I have to tuck my shoulders in to fit in them. My shoulders pretty much get wedged in there and I'm not a big fan of that. It's also pretty loud in there but at Troy Beaumont where I've gotten mine done they give you head phones and you pick a radio station to listen to.

i had 1 done like 8 years ago on my head. I lost my sence of smell and the docs couldnt figure out why. The never figured out why i lost my sence of smell, even today i only have 10% of my ability to smell, but they did discover that my skull is a lot thicker than normal, no joke. Anyway back to your question, i found the experience to be very uncomfortable, i felt i was being sufficated by the lead vest and i got clostrafobic when i was in the tube.

I've had a few. Not a big deal, just noisy in the tube and not much room either. Good luck Nick, I hope all works out for you!

I hate small spaces, I'm fat. They dont work well together. Casey said she got me a magic pill.

Thanks for pointing that out Pete. Did I foget to mention I also hate needles? :miff:

If I live through this test I will be having a bunch more in the next coming weeks.

My little boy has had two of them. It didn't look to bad. You lay on your back and don't move, while they shove you in a loud tube.

My buddy is waaaaaaayyyyyyyyy fatter than you and he fit in the tube.

MRI's and CT's every few months you get used to it. . . I dont really remember the firstone. Just listen to music and take a nap it will be fine. Yes it does taste bad when they inject the contrast or whatever.

I hear that shoulders rub, and your nose an inch from the top. If you are really bad with tight places DO TELL THEM!
