But Edwards thinks of you make over $200,000 you're a millionaire.

Quote:
"I do think we need to have a bubble above $97,000, probably up to about $200,000 so we don't raise taxes on middle-class families," Edwards said at Thursday's AARP forum. "But, above the $200,000, these millionaires on Wall Street ought to be paying their Social Security taxes."
But seriously, I'm not sure which idea is best, but something needs to be done about it. I don't understand how all these politicians in Washington can sit there and say... "yep, the system will be broke by year (insert number here)" and then do nothing to prevent it.

I have been trying to find a website or something that shows/tells what is middle class high class and so on. AND out of those income brackets what percentage of tax they pay, AND what percentage of Federal Income Tax is it comprised of.

At one time I read that in my salary range, I am in the top 10 percent of wage erners in the country, and wich pays 80 percent of the total tax to the feds.

1. right, because they'll be out of office then. It's up to us as voters to make it thier problem now.

2. Right again, but equally stupid is to gleefully pay into a system to help old people knowing that it won't be there to help me when I'm old. The baby boomers may be great people, but why should I be supporting thier retirement and mine at the same time?

From 1937 until 1990 the tax rate (http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/ProgData/taxRates.html) changed regularly, presumably to make sure the fund didn't go broke. Since then we have had our heads collectivly pushed deeper and deeper into the sand, I guess hoping that money trees would sprout to cover the shortfall.

Well, OK, yeah, you pay taxes and taxes pays for this stuff. To actually have an intelegent discussion about the future of the social security trust fund a little deeper understanding of government taxing and spending might be necessary.

maybe someone should tell the dem's that the top 20% wage earners already carry 80% of the burden.
