Unhappy Another Stupid Computer Question...

Everyone else asks them, so now it's my turn.

I have a gabillion names and addresses compiled on an excell sheet. I want to make address labels using this information. I have tried microsoft "HELP", but it didn't work for me. I obviously need more help than that.

I am not an idiot, I'm sure it's something simple I am overlooking.

How do I do it?

Create and print envelopes for a mass mailing
On the Tools menu, point to Letters and Mailings, and then click Mail Merge Wizard.
Under Select document type, click Labels.
The active document becomes the main document.

Click Next: Starting document.

then it is step by step... this is with word.

I tried that and all of my labels came out blank.

Is there a certain way I need to format my excel sheet to get it to work? I swear to God I am not an idiot.

hopefully that address data in excel is organized into some logical fashion with for example column a) for names, column b) for street address.

If you randomly were typing addresses in a fashion where they actually already look like mailing labels e.g.:

name
address
city, state zip

then good luck. you may find it easier printing it as is, using a paper cutter and clear packing tape depending on your cutting+pasting skills, and/or typing speeds.

:)

How are you saving the Excel file? May try to export as an csv or txt file, then import into Word...just thinking outloud...also, are the fields setup as general or text, and not numbers or dates?

Ummmm ok. It is saved in my documents as an excel file. I have the columns designated name, address, city, state, zip. And each row is an individual contact. I wouldn't mind copying and pasting each one, but I have over 200 and counting....

you have to specify your mail merge comes from an external file and specify excel and then check the box specifying you have a header row. it should populate it without having to print for previewing.
